Sanchez spent the day receiving treatment on his right ankle. A bone spur was removed at the end of the season, the injury limiting Sanchez to one game at Class AAA Nashville following his acquisition from the Boston Red Sox.
Because of the time it has taken for the ankle to heal, Sanchez hasn't been cleared to run, hit or throw. His conditioning has been confined to upper-body workouts.
"When you want to get better at something, you can say I'm going to lift harder, work out every day and run six days a week," Sanchez said. "With this thing, I can't do that. It's frustrating because if you want me to get better fielding, I can just go and take ground balls every day. But with this, there's not much I can do but let it heal."
Sanchez doesn't know whether his rehabilitation is ahead, behind or right on schedule. He'll learn more next week when he travels to Pittsburgh and is re-examined by a foot specialist.
