RedSoxDiehard on the creation of the Red Sox franchise

It is overlooked that the when the Western League became the AL in the fall of 1900, Boston was not one of the eight teams. The AL was supposed to be in Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit,Buffalo, Milwaukee, Washington, Baltimore, and Philadelphia but for better of for worse the AL decided to go against the National League in Boston and Buffalo became Boston.

Milwaukee became the St Louis Browns, and Baltimore became you know who. The AL would then remain unchanged for 50 years until the Browns moved to Baltimore and Philadelphia moved to Kansas City.

You omitted the first franchise switch in the second half of the 20th century, that being the Braves going to Milwaukee.

Thank you for that information. I have always pulled for the Sox, but have become obsessed the last couple of years. Carolina basketball and Red Sox baseball are my life. Thank You.

Thanks! Recently I'm been obsessed with the Red Sox, always wanting to learn more about their history. Just the other day I was looking for old pictures of Fenway Park and I learned a little bit of history there. This morning (between 12:00am and 5:00am) I read up on Roger Clemens, looked at pics of old players, and made a background, filled with pics of Red Sox legends, for my desktop lol.

Now I understand where "Rooters" came from.

"Boston's Royal Rooters" by Peter J Nash is a great pictorial history of the Boston fan-base from its infancy through today. A must read for the Sox historian.

I ordered mine today!

Just in time for our 7th title.

Just now received my book in the mail today.

Great stuff, though. As I was thumbing through the pages today, I noticed the pictures of Nuf-Ced and the Rooters at the 1903 World Series. It's amazing to think that one hundred and four years later, we're about to experience the same thrill and excitement as they did. And, our second title in four years, to boot! Is it great to be a Sox fan or what?

I've already purchased the "Rooters: Birth of the RSN" DVD for the old man's Christmas gift.

P.S. This site is mentioned in the fourth line from the bottom of the fourth paragraph on page 8. I'm sure most of you already knew that, however.

Pretty good history of McGreevey's and Royal Rooters:
