The Boston Red Sox have announced the coaching staff for the 2005 Bombers.
Chad Epperson will be at the reins in 2005. He will be a first-time manager for the Bombers, but is not new to the South Atlantic League -- he was the skipper for the 2004 Augusta GreenJackets in that team’s final year with the Boston organization (66-73 record). Epperson was a catcher in the minors for the Mets and Red Sox before turning to coaching. The upcoming season will be his fourth with the Red Sox system.
Pitching Coach Bob Kipper heads into his seventh year coaching with the Red Sox, with his last two seasons spent as the pitching coach for the Portland Sea Dogs.
Randy Phillips will serve as hitting coach. Phillips brings the most minor league coaching experience to the staff, having spent ten years coaching with the Braves and Blue Jays organizations (plus two seasons in Australia) before joining Boston’s system in 2003. He has been the hitting coach for the Lowell Spinners the last two years.
