College

Drafted after his junior year at VCU, Meredith, as mentioned above was used almost exclusivley as a reliever. He put up his best numbers in 2003, going 6-0 with a 1.19 ERA over 29 games with 8 saves, 70 strikeouts, and only 16 walks.

2002- Went 4-2 over 24 games with a 4.30 ERA. Struck out 31 and walked 12.
2003- Above
2004- Went 7-3 with a 2.55 ERA in 25 games with 7 saves, 84 strikeouts and 12 walks.

Minor Leagues

Meredith started his pro career with the Augusta Greenjackets, where in 13 games he gave up no runs and saved 6 games. In Augusta he also struck out 18 and walked 3.

Cla was promoted to Sarasota of the Florida State League after his great performance in Augusta and put up a 0-2 record with a 2.20 ERA in 16 games with 12 saves, 16 strikeouts and only 3 walks.

Pitches

Meredith throws an 88-89 MPH fastball with a good slider that he uses mainly as his outpitch and comes to the plate from a 3/4 arm slot.

Future

Potentially, this Virginia Commonwealth product could start 2005 as the closer for the Portland Sea Dogs. He seems to be a quick riser and with a decent spring training I definatley could see him in the Eastern League to start the season.

What does everyone else think about this guy? I'm still up in the air over whether or not he starts the season in Wilmington or Portland and do you think he is better than Brian Marshall already?

Meredith pitched 1.1 innings this past weekend in Arizona, striking out 3 of the 4 batters he faced, without allowing a runner to reach base.

So far, Meredith has appeared in two save situations for the Sea Dogs, converting both and striking out 2.

Just called up to Pawtucket today so he's doing something right! The one game I saw him pitch in, he looked fantastic. Excellent movement on his pitches.

Wow, he's pitching with TONS of movement tonight. Go to minorleaguebaseball.com to view the live feed.

Now that I say that...he has given up two home runs, struck out one and got a ground out to SS. The two home runs were on his change up, the only pitch he's thrown that obviously doesn't move. He needs to work on the change because hitters are just waiting for that pitch. Other than that, his pitches seem to be moving pretty well.

It doesn't give a MPH, though.

A very Cla-like outing last night for the new Portland Beaver. Cla-boy got a save, with his inning going: ground out, ground out, ground ball single, ground out.

Big day for Cla. Called up to San Diego, he pitched a scoreless inning and earned his first big league win this afternoon. Nut-cutting time, indeed.
