Y'know, this is about the time of year I've tucked away my Sox hat in favor of a nice Patriots Super Bowl Champ model, for the chilly months. This year, of course, I can't take my Sox cap off for any reason when I step outside. I can't say I've had the awesome pleasure of walking past Yankee fans here in Illinois, but being 90 miles north of St Louis, I've had a number of stunned Cardinals' gear wearing folks give me a double-take.
Anyone out there having good stories of Cardinal or Yankee fans melting into the sidewalk due to exposure to your Sox gear and maniacal grin?
(yes, this is lifted from the "SOSH kryptonite thread," I love that subject!!!!)

YES! Well, I don't wear my hat everywhere because I got sick of getting grief from a Yankees fan at work. But I wear my Red Sox jacket everywhere!

I've been wearing the same dirty old Red Sox hat for the last 4 seasons, but during a certain drunken 19-8 blowout about 6 weeks ago I cracked the peak and I am dreading going to buy a new one to go along with all the other brand new Sox hats out there. So I think that I will continue to wear my Trot Nixonesque hat with the busted peak until my first trip to the Fens next season, maybe something with a nice World Series logo on the side.

I have been enjoying my post-title Sox gear. I actually had the "Kryptonite Response" happen to me last night...here in Alabama!
Leaving Books-a-Million with my girlfriend and a friend of hers, I had a Red Sox "greatest comeback in MLB playoff history shirt" on, and she had the standard Red Sox "B" hat. As we got to the door, a 13-15 year-old guy comes in wearing a Yankees hat. I just look straight at him as we walk. He looks our way, then, while walking forward, manages to be extremely fascinated with everything exactly 90 degrees to his right, as we walk by on the left. I laughed my way to the car after that.

Well, I can't wear my hat to work, but my standard fitted hat that's been attached to me head every weekend since last season is still making it's weekly appearance. It’s really wonderful walking around NYC with this thing on. Right after the series I actually had more Yankees fans coming up to me and actually congratulating me on the street (as if I'd played on the team) than anything, but now that that's worn off, Yanks fans look at it and quickly avert their eyes. It's a great feeling, but is it still completely surreal to any of you? Cause it still feels weird to me.

It's been such a pleasure wearing my Sox hat here in New York City. A couple of weeks ago I passed ex-Red Sox pitcher Bob Ojeda on the street in Manhattan. He saw my Sox hat, cracked a small smile, and kept walking. All I could do is smile and keep walking..........
Yankee fans here are deathly silent. Those that see my Sox hat say absolutely nothing. They know "that we've got 'em!!"
I've always worn my hat with pride.
I now wear it with more pride than ever...........

I haven't gone a day without wearing a Red Sox shirt since the World Series. My wardrobe has grown by at least 10 Sox shirts and my wife has already given up seeing me wear anything else. The best part is I work with a bunch of Yankees fans and keep surprising them with news shirts. Tonight at work I'm going to bring in a box Wheaties with David Ortiz on the cover to eat at my desk for dinner. I'm really loving all of this.
Go Red Sox!!!

It's almost as if they know they've been nasty Yankee fans their entire lives, and have died and gone to see St. Peter. And St. Peter is not amused. When we wear our gear, we are St. Peter to them. They know its way too late for "hey, sorry about being a chump to you my entire life."
And aren't they so quick to agree when you say: "Well, we both had great seasons." So very quick.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm down in Texas at school, and I can't go anywhere wearing my sox hat without getting atleast a few comments asking if I really am a sox fan or is it just because of this year. It makes me so mad I only wear it around people that know me.

When I was recently in New England, I went into the Sports Deformity and bought two new sox hats to add to my dozens...As well as another shirt...That easily makes eight or nine of those..I think I'm never buying any more sox gear. Hey, it's the most enjoyment I can get down here. Not exactly a target-rich environment where Yankee fans are concerned. Of all the things I'm obsessed with, it's my Sox hats. I'm only up to 10 - but trust me, if you're into the pinwheel look, check out www.hatland.com (based out of Ocean City, MD) or www.lids.com (which has the worst availability ever in sizing) for good designs.
Of course, I've never been prouder either.

Oh yeah, wearing the ole fitted "B" on front, 2 sox logo on back that I bought at City of Palms park back in the spring. I dont know what it is about those hats but you see the people in the stands that wear the same hat and it looks like part of their body. Mine, after wearing it all summer in here in florida, looks (and smells) like part of mine. I went to the May 7-th game at Fenway against the KC and left it behind, next year is travels with me

To the left is me pictured on the Monstah in May, (without the hat) believe it or not there were 2 Yankee fans in the group that took the tour with me, one of them, took that picture.

I don't begrudge any of
you all wearing your gear with pride. Hell... I still wear my NY hat proudly wherever I go that I can wear a hat! What
does annoy me is the sheer amount of people around me (CT) who couldn't have told you who Trot Nixon was a year ago that are suddenly sporting every Red Sox article of clothing out there! They're everywhere around here now!
and yes, I know the Yanks have fairweather fans too! That makes me equally as sick.... unless it happens to be a gorgeous blonde in a pinstripe jersey
I just hate fairweather fans of any team...
funny story though... I was at a bar during the ALCS (game 2 maybe?) wearing my Mantle jersey (no name obviously) and some dope of a 21 year old with a Jeter jersey on comes up to me and says (one of those self proclaimed die hards):
"What kind of fan are you? There's no one wearing #7 on the Yankees! Are you gonna personalize it with your own name?"
I just rolled my eyes and said:
"Oh.. he was just some guy who played centerfield before Bernie, he was pretty good!"
I felt like knocking the hat off his head and shouting... it's Mickey Mantle you dip-shit!

I've been wearing my Red Sox hat still around campus. Yankee fans can't even make contact with me, and aren't obnoxious now for some reason.
The only thing that sucks now is that you see so many people with Red Sox hats(bay area), and before you would just stop and talk with these random people about the Red Sox, but not now. That's the only thing I miss about wearing a Red Sox hat/merchandise, because it was just nice to talk to total strangers and act like you've known them for years, because of the Red Sox.

I agree that it's unfortunate that with winning the WS comes the requisite amount of bandwagon fans. Happens every year, every sport. Probably a bit more now because the Sox were kinda "Americas Team" for a while there.
We still won't approach the sheer breathtaking Bandwagon Madness the CFY's approach, although they are probably losing a few. Plus they have the punk kids who wear CFY hats because the guy on Limp Bizkit does and they don't even know what the hat is.
Still, when I do pass a CFY fan with his hat facing the right way or wearing a CFY jacket, they turn inside out to look the other way when they see my Sox hat. Yeeeeaaahhh Baby.

There's an extensive thread on Sons of Sam Horn about Sox caps in NYC. I live in the Metro NY area and work in Midtown and have regularly worn a "B" hat, as my daughter calls it, for the last ten years. I have to say, that up until now, on average I would get a comment at least once a week about the hat. Sometimes obnoxious, sometimes just friendly ribbing, but usually at least once a week, or at least say three times a month, someone would feel the need to say something. Most recently, was a NJ Transit conductor who during the playoffs would continually say: "You aint getting on the train with that hat on, if you do, it's double the fare" etc. He doesn't say anything now, nor does anyone else for that matter. Which is how it should be. I quite enjoy the new silence which is all I ever wanted--to be treated the same as someone wearing say a Brewers cap in NYC.
And I have to admit taking some quite pleasure in buying a world series T-shirt from Modells, amid all the Yankee paraphenalia.

I'm at Ohio State for grad school. Before the WS, I would walk around campus with my Sox gear on, and never, I mean Never see anyone with similar stuff on. It's all Buckeyes football here, 365 days a year. Every now and then I'd see an Indians hat or two, but they were few and far between.
I even posted a thread here in the playoffs looking for a Sox-friendly bar in Columbus, since I just moved here in July from Mass. The only responses I got said there were not many Sox fans here.
Now, I see 5-10 Red Sox hats a day. They might as well still have the tags on.
Sometimes I want to grab one of these bandwagon jumpers and quiz them on the starting lineup.
Oh well, a world championship is worth the price of a few fair weather fans.

Yesterday, my husband and I are out at a local bar catching some music from a stateside blues band. A very good friend of ours, who is a DEVOTED MFY fan, comes up and hands a gift package to me. Surprised, I open it. It's a Red Sox WS Champions hat. I was shocked. He actually went out of his way to go to a Modell's when he was in NJ last week and bought it specifically for me. He said it killed him to actually PAY for a Red Sox hat, but for me he did it. How cool was that ???
I didn't have the heart to tell him that I already had one. However, I will wear this gift with great pride and appreciation to a very cool MFY fan.

The vast majority of the Yankee Fans I interact with are classy and gracious. The fans that are idiots shouldn't be used to paint the whole fandom with a broad brush. The same can be said of Red Sox fans. The vast majority of Red Sox fans I interact with are classy and gracious, but we have just as many idiots/fratboys/jerks/assholes fans as the Yankees do. They don't hold a monopoly on them.
The reason I'm writing this is because it seems with the inclusion of few (which in my mind is trying to denote them as a minority of Yankee Fans) you are throwing a lot of good people under the bus.
