I just got this book today. I thought it was very good. There are many quotes from multiple members of RSN.net and SOSH in there. This was a better read than Stephen King's book as Montville talks about his own experiences as a red sox fan and then he gets some great anecdotes from different members of Red Sox nation. Needless to say, when I read the "Win it for" thread again it started getting a little dusty....

Quotes from our people? Any examples you're willing to cough up?

I just double- checked the RSN "Win it For" thread to see who's "our people" - From what I can tell, Montville has quotes from:
John The Baptist
Leesha
Yazgoesbacklooksupitsgone
Jack Lamabe65 has a whole chapter about him as well.
I know Amazon.com (see above) has this book if anybody's interested.

You know, not to bah humbug, but I am a little tired of the "suffering fan perspective" stuff--from SI, to Steven King and Stewart O'Nan, to having had read the threads etc. at the time. I know it. I lived it. I have already read it. What I really want to read about now is what actually happened. How did the players do it? How did they feel? What did they say? I want the story from the dugout, the bullpen, the clubhouse, manny's breakfast nook etc. Is anyone writing that?
And instead of letting Montville and others mine these boards to sell their books, maybe the boards themselves should get someone to print their "win it for" and game threads and sell it in hardcover to cover their web costs.

Hmmm. As I did not know anything about this, I'm assuming the posters were contacted and at least asked for their permission. It only seems right.
JTB? Leesh? YGBLUIG?

My question is, HOW did Montville NOT use my stuff? I was freaking brilliant in that thread.
Perhaps he feared unleashing the electrically charged talent that is GoNM?

Nope, not me. Hey, I'll take it though. My mom's gonna be a blubbering mess if she sees something I wrote about her dad in print.
Gee, THANKS, Leigh.

edit- I just checked, and the book comes out tomorrow- how does anyone have a copy?

I had no idea I was quoted until Orrie told me a few minutes ago. So nope, no one asked me. Although it's pretty flattering, I have to say.

I read the book and I thought it was much better than Faithful. If I had to recommend only one book out of the two I would say to get Why not us? I liked Faithful because it was about the Sox, but I honestly found myself skimming through some of it. I don't know if I was skimming through some of it because I knew the outcomes of those particular games or if because it just did not hold my attention that much. I don't think it is bad, I just don't think it is the best book out there. I don't know maybe I'm weird because I originally said I like Faithful, but when I really think about it I just don't think I did. Strange I know. I'm confusing!

Does anyone happen to have the link to the "Win it for" posts handy? I don't remember which section we put them in.

I really enjoyed "Faithful", and I just picked up "Why Not Us?" I also loved Leigh Montville's Ted Williams book, and his new book is really good so far. Any book that features the fans is just fine with me..........
