The FTP server that originally had the torrents for the various Red Sox Playoff media files is down temporarily so I thought I would update the links and also list them all in one post for convenience:

Wasnt that shut down with many of the other file sharing "services"?

There are two parts of sharing files through BitTorrent: the tracker and the torrent.

The torrent is the file that determines how the file you want to download is split up and what the has values are that insure the file is put together correctly. The tracker is a site that coordinates what peers are sharing the file at any particular time.

Some of the larger torrent list sites (like Suprnova.org) have shut down (either voluntarily or due to civil action from the MPAA).

The site that currently serves as the tracker for the Red Sox media files that are posted above is still active. The problem came when the FTP server that held the torrents (the files that point to a particular tracker and have the info about the source file) was down due to the provider's ADSL service being transfered to another company and there being a screwup in the transfer.

In summation, the links above are still active and hopefully we'll be able to add to them soon.

Well, I'm experiencing a problem, though this is a couple of days later than the post I'm quoting above.

I get a timed out warning on the tracker when I try to download any of the WEEI files (those are the only ones I'm interested in) using BitTorrent. Any idea if the site serving as the tracker is still up, or is it my problem? I'd really like to get the WEEI broadcasts for any of the playoff games that I can--beats hell out of the Fox soundtrack.

Hmm, I just checked the tracker for the WEEI broadcasts and it was working and there are seeds on that torrent so I'd have to say the problem is on your end. If you are using BitComet, try changing the 'Listen Port' under the 'Preferences'.

If you are using another BitTorrent client, try BitComet (its the easiest to set up that I've seen).

Well let's see here, other than the DVD rip (which I left off the list of media available that started this post), every piece of media listed has already been broadcast and been available for taping by anyone with a VCR or Audio Cassette Recorder.

The people involved in those productions have already been paid for the productions (as they are paid for the event that they work) so I'm failing to see how food is being taken off anyone's table.

As for the two highlight videos, one was broadcast (again available for free taping by anyone with a VCR) and the other (getsoxedhi.mov) was personally done not-for profit. Again, where is the food theft?

As for the aforementioned DVD, I think every Red Sox fan should buy it, if for no other reason than to have the best quality version possible (the rip is not full-DVD quality, IMHO) and also to support the team. I bought a copy of both DVDs for myself and several to give as Christmas presents but I also like having a copy I can keep on my laptop and watch when the mood strikes me.

If you would rather not participate in insuring that the video record of the best moment in Boston sports is available to as many of the fans who lived, died, celebrated and cried with this team, then, by all means, don't participate in torrents or file sharing of any kind but let's not over dramatize any "injury" that is taking place.

ALCS Game One versus the MFY is scheduled on NESN on Jan 31, so one would presume they will follow that up with the rest of the playoffs. Perfect!

Red Sox InsideOut looks like it might be back in mid-Jan, too.

Okay, someone please give a link to the site that I need to go to to download whatever is needed to view these. Please. I had the BitTorrent before and it didnt work. Someone who has one that works, please give links and give some very easy instructions on what I need to do with them. Thank you.

I would advise trying BitComet as its very easy to setup (as in just install it and run it). The links above should work (I just tested one and it worked).

I gave up. They wont download for me, and its not worth the trouble of trying over and over and over and over......

Sorry you're having trouble with the files. I've tried the torrents recently and they work for me. Perhaps its your BitTorrent client, the way your router is configured (if you use one), or how you connect to the internet.

Maybe there will be a better (new) way to transfer the files soon. . .
