http://www.stubhub.com/?genre_id=5650 The New York Yankees have had a winter to think about Boston's incredible win in the 2004 ALCS.
Now they've added The Big Unit and Carl Pavano and are ready for another run at the AL East and beyond.
If you missed your chance at the box office, StubHub has great tickets for New York Yankees Spring Training and Home Games -- including Opening Day against the World Champion Boston Red Sox.
EDIT: Pricks.

Well as ahead of themselves as they are I would feel confident making that statement too.... I think at this point it is inevitable....

MSNB.com is reporting that RJ himself has confirmed that "the deal is done", however the terms are unknown.
Somehow I have this feeling that RJ will not bring happiness. Will he really "tip the scales" the Yankees way? Or is there more hype here than anything else?

What will go first, the shoulder, the elbow, the knee or the back. Betcha he pitches less than 150 innings this year....Oh, and enjoy the DH Randy...

Well of course he is a great pitcher but the net gain of them letting go of Vazquez is obviously of short term interest. One that isn't even certain as there is always a risk with a pitcher over 40, Vazquez could very well be a great pitcher next season negating the short term value of RJ.
Who knows.... all i can say is f@ck the yankees....

I can't believe they are letting Vasquez go, his first half was great. Apperantly he had shoulder troubles of some sort in the second half. I'm kind of happy they are making this deal. I hope they get rid of some of those prospects.
If those goes through, lets look at their rotation
RJ-Good, but old, and his ERA will go up coming to the AL
Mussina- Guy had Eric Milton like ERA last year. 4.59 in 164 innings, come on, this guy doesn't scare me
Pavano- Has a decent upside, but lets not forget he's had one good year. This guy could be the next Vasquez
Brown- I'm just waiting for this guys arm to come flying off his arm one day when he pitches. Besides his ERA was more than 4 last year.
Wright- What do I have to say besides Jaret Wright. The guy like Pavano has had one good season.

Throw in the motivational aspect. Vasquez was quoted as saying the Yankees would be sorry if they traded him.
We are kidding ourselves if we don't believe that RJ will be a major impact next year and maybe even in 06. We are the same people that were thrilled about Wells. I know that the Yankees will have to give him an extension that will cost them upwards of 17 mil a year but do you think that George is concerned about that ? Hell no. He is going onward with this trade as well as looking to add Beltran , another 15 + mil contract to add to his collection), just 2 days after it was announced that he haf to cut checks totalling over $85 million for the luxury tax and revenue sharing.
When this deal happens, there is no way to spin it in a positive way for the 05 Red Sox.

No way to spin it as a positive for the 05 sox, but what a negative for the future of the MFY. They dump a bunch of prospects, really cleaning out what's left in terms of quality prospects. They lose Vaz, who may very well have a better season than RJ, and let's not forget this guy was billed as the future of the MFY rotation. (See Jeff Weaver in 03). The MFY have gotten older by adding RJ AND will be even more past the Luxury Tax threshold. Who will the MFY have to trade from their minor league system mid season when we're trading Hanley et others for Ben Sheets at the trading deadline?
The Yankees get older, we get better.

I agee 100 % Manny. George is , and recently has been, thinking very short term. I am enjoying the fact that I can witness the slow demise of the Evil Empire. I was diagreeing with anyone who felt this move would not benefit the MFY in 05. George wil be retired by the time the MFY start reverting back to the mid 80's. He plans on going out a winner though.

I don't know what prospects you think the Yankees have, but the only prospects they have right now are Grant, Franklin, Washington, etc. Their farm system is so bereft of talent that any garbage C-level prospects thrown into this deal can't really make it much worse. This is why they've had trouble getting deals done lately. And RJ is, realistically speaking, the best pitcher in MLB right now. The Sox lineup has a number of hitters who do NOT like LHP. This isn't a good thing. RJ may be old and getting older, but that only seems to be affecting him insofar as it is making him look even more decrepit and ugly. I thought it was impossible, but it happened. I don't want to have to watch the big ugly pitch against my team on T.V. He sure didn't pitch like his age was bothering him last year, so I fail to see whay we should assume he will this year. The man got jobbed out of another Cy by his W-L record and myopic voters. I hope he stays in AZ where he can not be a thorn in the Sox's side.

Navarro gets all this hype simply because he is the Spanks' #1 prospect. But a .269 BA with 14 doubles and 3 HRs during your second year in AA isn't exactly setting the world on fire. Anyone who gives up worthwhile major league talent for this "prospect" doesn't deserve his job.
If the Yanks' peddle their best minor league garbage to some other team then their next-best minor league garbage will get hype simply because of the amount of NYC media.

Although you are correct about Navarro being overated, you can't say there system is weak. They have a bunch of talent a low levels. Whether or not these guys turn into top prospects is questionable. But Cano and Duncan can probably produce for a major league team in the next couple years. Although we have a few very good prospects like Papelbon, Lester, Alvarez, maybe Sanchez, Hanley, Pedrioa, and Brandon Moss, we are pretty shallow after that. If you haven't noticed, our system is great either.

So other than those mentioned in the last few posts, most of whom will be shipped for RJ, who do they have in their system? It's a mess, unless you know more than the NY POST and Daily News. The guy continually mortgages the future to grab aging superstars. You can't pillage your minor system over and over again and expect it to remain strong. Last year at the deadline they offered about six prospects to the D-Backs if I remember correctly and the D Backs said it wasn't enough. IMO they have nothing left to trade when they sew up RJ.
