isnt there somthing between Jeter and A-rod?
From what I've heard (can't recall from where) they don't like eachother at all which is a reason the Yanks backed off any pursuit of him. Don't wanna make the pretty boy Master Card spokesman mad now do they. But I've heard they dislike eachother to some extent. Could be because A Rod dwarfs Jeter in every part of the game.

We went from one superior SS to another.
IIRC, sometime around the time ARod signed his big deal with the Rangers, he gave an interview (GQ I believe) in which ARod said that despite the World Series rings, Jeter isn't as good as ARod is (paraphrasing big time). Ever since the relationship has been exceptionally cool.

Red Sox meet with A-Rod, MLB officials in New York
By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff, 12/16/2003
Texas Ranger shortstop Alex Rodriguez and Boston general manager Theo Epstein met throughout the day today in New York with officials from Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association as talks continued about the possible restructuring of Rodriguez's record $252 million contract that could help clear the way for a trade of the superstar to Boston.
Gene Orza, the associate general counsel of the players association, said he met with Rodriguez, his wife Cynthia, Epstein and Robert Manfred, the executive vice president of labor relations and human resources of MLB.
The Red Sox and Rangers have been discussing a trade of Rodriguez to Boston for Manny Ramirez and other considerations. One of the sticking points in the trade is Rodriguez's contract. The Red Sox are hopeful that Rodriguez will be willing to rework some parts of the contract, which was signed in 2000 for 10 years and is the biggest in baseball history.
If Texas and Boston work out a deal for Rodriguez, the American League's Most Valuable player last year, the Red Sox would then look to trade their All-Star shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, who with his agent have been engaged in sometimes contentious talks with the Sox about a contract extension.
Epstein and Rodriguez first met on Monday night in New York and all parties got together first thing Tuesday and met until early evening.

In defense of those that run SoSH, you have to look at it from the other side of the fence.
My little site is easy to moderate, as there aren't THAT many visitors...but even still, I"ve had problems with trolls in chat.
Since being asked to help out here at RR, I can see the point of LJ and others as to why they have restricted membership once it got to a certian level. Moderating boards such as these is a thankless endeavor where no matter what you do, somebody is going to be pissed off.

Seems that way to me. There was some very poor usage of statisitics over there with regard to the A-Rod/Manny/Nomar thread that I was going to correct (stats are part of my line of work) but since I'm not a member couldn't do it.
Oh well their loss.
Anyway just remember putting together a baseball, team budget and all, must be looked at as a whole not analyzed in parts. Analyzing the parts without consideration of the whole will result in false conclusions that are meaningless in the end. In other words anyone saying that trading Nomar and Manny gets us just A-Rod (simplest terms) is missing the big picture. The actions of the entire off-season must be taken together including Schilling, Foulke and anything else.

This isn't just A-Rod & prospects for Manny & Nomar. It's a grander scheme involving replenishing (So I'm lead to believe) some of the beleaguered upper minors while strengthening the team to perform at a top level during the regular season, at and an even higher level during the post season

I was merely amused by the juxtaposition of your first few sentences that were frought with needless worry and your subsequent celebration of the deal's apparent consummation. And of course, you now say that you're not that excited by the deal.
It's natural to have conflicting emotions about something of this magnitude, but I am an optimist (a cynical optimist, no less) so I am nothing but happy right now.
Your correct in my mood swings from ecstatic to scared shit ... But a massive change such as this to a team I (and we) all follow with all our hearts brings about so many mixed feelings. Love A Rod miss Manny, A Rod's great, damn I liked Nomar, LF is vacant, trust Theo, 2b 2b 2b, We'll figure it out. It's like a roller coaster. But I am excited about the potential this team has even before LF and 2b are resolved.

Does anybody else think that this whole ARod/Manny/Nomar set of scenarios would never happen but for the Schilling and Foulke deals?
I know this isn't, as I have posted before...Arod < Nomar + Manny, but i think with the probable drop off in numbers from the LF spot, and the somewhat realistic potential of career years by some of the guys being just that, that improving the rotation and the pen makes the team far stronger , regardless of who plays shortstop (Nomar or ARod) and leftfield (Manny or ???)
It just further convinces me that there is a PLAN!!

theo, i would simply disagree that sheffield is a GREAT hitter- gets on base, hits for crazy power, appears to be getting better with age- the only knock on him is his defense, and his character, but as for the latter, well, looking around the MFY clubhouse, maybe he'll fit in acting like an @sshole. Anyway, ya, as for doing it at the same time- thats GOLD. I don't think that the Sox would part with him anyway. They see him as a really high prospect and since they are still rebuilding they might not be willing to part with all their high prospects at this point.
The Greek God Of Walks is really hurting himself with recent performances against advanced compteition. I think the reason he hasnt been included in trade talks is that his AAA/Mexican league performances have really soured a lot of organizations on him. Check out the numbers:
AAA
ba: .165
obp: .295
slg: .248
bb: 18
rbi: 15
Mexican Pacific Winter League
BA.259
OBP.413

Perhaps I didn't express my thoughts fully on Sheff. He's better than a fine hitter, hell let's call him Barry Jr with the bat for all of the reasons you listed, since he's also Mondesi Sr with the 'tude!
You can pretty much just call him Barry Jr., since even Mondesi or Sheffiled can match Barry's tude.

WHOEVER THOUGHT OF THAT IDEA OF SCHEDULING A PRESS CONFERENCE TEN MINUTES AFTER THE YANKEES ANNOUNCE THE SIGNING OF HEAD CASE SHEFFIELD WAS BRILLANT. PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN.
Yes... that would be terrific.
"And here we have live broadcast of the Yankees oress conference of signing Gary Sheffield... Let's pick up Brian Cashman..."
"blah blah... helps the team..."
"and we interrupt this broadcast to go to the press conference of the biggest trade in sports history."
THAT would be sensational.
