Expect Schilling to throw 50 - 60 pitches today. I hope the usual suspects don't make too much of this outing. He's 4-5 weeks behind the other starters, and needs to ease himself back in to pitching.

It's nice to see a lineup of familiar names: have we had all our starters in a game this spring before today?
vvac35
Hmmmm...I kind of like Trot 2nd, Rent 5th.
Cudahy
Sox fans outside of Boston with Directv have been screwed again. They've blacked it out again, for no reason. NESN has contacted Directv to find out what the problem is.

Damon, Nixon, Manny, Ortiz -
3 out of 4 lefties - I can't see Tito doing this much.
JohntheBaptist
back-to-back HR, j jones and m restovich

3-1 twins in the 4th
wincheck
Schilling just gave up back-to-back homers. It's just ST.

EDIT - beaten to it. natch.

That's what I kept telling myself after seeing RJ blow Atlanta's hitters away yesterday...

But I still wish our guy pitched RJ's game and RJ gave up back-to-back...
Cudahy
Schilling reaches his pitch count with 2 outs in the 4th. Timlin comes in to get the 3rd out.

I feel your pain. I got off work early today with plans to watch Schill only to have the jackasses at Directv ruin my day again. I also called them only to get some stooge tell me that its a NESN problem...which I knew was a flatout lie. Directv consistently hires idiots with absolutely no knowledge of the product or how it works. This chick was telling me how some games are blacked out blah blah blah. I explained that as a ten year customer and sports fanatic I am quite well versed in the blackout rules...and todays game doesn't apply. Especially since the on screen mesage says to subscribe contact customer service at DTV as opposed to the blkacout mesage which usually states "this game is not available in your area".
She then, apparently frustrated, said that NESN has seperate rules and can blackout any game they want...and have exercised that option today. I then hungup. I called NESN and they expressed apologies and said they are going back and forth with directv over this...and will have it resolved by opening day.

I knew it was too perfect. I'm in Spring Training still, too. I need to get my mind ready for serious baseball talk. huh.gif blush.gif

I heard an interview with Francona on WBZ this morning; he said that he was going to bat Nixon second against right-handers, and Renteria second against lefties. So we might see this lineup...

Foulke pitching in the sixth. Still 3-1 Twinkies.

Cudahy
The Twins announcers are really badmouthing Bellhorns defense. They say he missed several easy plays
RedSoxAnni
They've been badmouthing the Sox defense all afternoon. They said Manny missed an easy play, and then made a diving catch on a line drive that he should have been able to catch easily. Bellhorn apparently booted a couple, including the grounder that hit the rubber and bounced by second base into center for the first run off Schilling.

Is anyone watching this? Is the defense that bad?

5-1 Twins after 6.

Foulke gave up HR to Cuddyer in the sixth.

Cudahy
Radke has shut down the regular offense for 6 innings.
RedSoxAnni
Mantei pitching in the seventh.

Schilling gives up three runs in debut; Red Sox ace surrenders back-to-back homers against Twins

" ..."I pitched very poorly, left some balls up, gave up a run with two outs and nobody on," Schilling told reporters after his outing. "Command-wise, it was spotty. Lot of work to do."

...

Admittedly not in game shape yet, Schilling said his ankle felt fine and his arm felt good, but was tired on the mound.

"I was tired going into the game I think, as much mentally as physically,” Schilling said. “This is a day I've been looking forward to since November. I was a little spent this morning getting ready for this game. ..."

Cudahy
Directv fixed the problem just in time to see Varitek hit a double.Still 5-1 bottom of the 8th.

Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, making his first start of spring training, delivers a throw to Minnesota Twins' Jason Bartlett in the first inning in Fort Myers, Fla., Friday March 25, 2005. Schilling gave up three earned runs on five hits in his three and 2/3 inning outing.
Cudahy
I'm glad there's still a week to go in spring training. Another 5 hit game.

Not exactly an inspiring effort from the offense...

There's an error in the box score. Cuddyer's HR was off Foulke, not Timlin.
Bergs
Has there been a box score this spring done correctly? Is it that f*cking hard?
RedSoxAnni
Official scorer Spring Training, I guess...
