Stan: What are you looking at, nerd?
Booger: I thought I was looking at my mother's old d*****-bag, but that's in Ohio.

That’s right folks, bust out the horn-rimmed glasses and the pocket protectors, time for some Revenge of the Nerds style come-uppance. “But wait, NU!”, you say, “the Boston Red Sox are a BASEBALL team! That’s the very essence of jockdom! You have cursed us all!”

That may be, but you are forgetting: this Red Sox team is quite possibly the nerdiest team in the history of MLB. Permit me to explain:

Exhibit A: Curt Schilling. He's a regular on the internet and local message boards (with even an occasional appearence on this very board.) He stays up all night playing Everquest. He’s even an admitted Dungeons and Dragons player. If you’ll allow me to indulge myself for a moment: NEEEEEERRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDD!!

Exhibit B: Lewis: “Jocks only think about sports, nerds only think about sex.” Remind you of anyone?

Exhibit C:

Exhibit D: Theo Epstein. Classic nerdlinger done good. He even went to Yale. Just look at this picture of him:

He looks like he fits right in.

Nerd mojo is quite clearly on our side, so lets stick it to those Alpha Beta/Cleveland Indian jerks. It’s nerd mojo all day today. Cheer along with me:

**clapping** Nerds! Nerds! Nerds! Nerds! Nerds!

Actually, it's better (or worse, depending on one's point of view). G38 actually *owns* a game company, putting out modules for *really* hard-core wargames (Looies has played Advanced Squad Leader-not for the casual or faint of heart).

Baez strikes out the quintessential jock/tying run Derek Jeter to get the save. (5-3, TB). Now, let's go Red Sox (and Toronto).

Boston (40-30) at Cleveland (37-32), 7:05 pm EDT

CLEVELAND (Ticker) - The red-hot Boston Red Sox look to keep
rolling when they meet the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

After posting a wild 10-9 victory in Monday's series opener, the
Red Sox pounded out 11 hits en route to a 9-2 triumph Tuesday.

David Ortiz homered twice and Bronson Arroyo tossed seven strong
innings for the Red Sox, who have won eight of their last nine
games.

Boston's Wade Miller (2-2, 5.16 ERA) looks to bounce back from
consecutive poor outings. Miller has posted a 5.59 ERA in three
starts this month and has surrendered nine runs and 13 hits in
13 innings over his last two outings.

Cleveland counters with Cliff Lee (8-3, 3.33 ERA). After
posting a 4.34 ERA in April, Lee has been one of the American
League's most consistent starters. The lefthander is 6-2 with a
2.80 ERA over his last nine games.

Lee is 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA in two career starts against the Red
Sox.

Millar in right.

Today I call upon the power of Robster Craws. Now you all are thinking, Booger-like in asking, "What the f*ck are robster craws?!" Well I'll telll ya. Robster craws are what happens when John Olerud plays first base. When Trot Nixon makes unbelievable catches int he outfield. Robster Craws is Bill Mueller on good days at third base. Yeah, we gots some Robster Craws right here.

In essence, Robster Craws just means gold glove defense. And I call upon that power tonight, to help Wade Miller drive to victory. Sure, Trot and Johnny are sitting out, but the power of Robster Craws will somehow, someway, help guide Millar to good fielding.

Robster Craws away!

*lamest. post. ever.*

Just in case you didn't think I take this mojo seriously, I'm off to buy some new glasses. Maybe I'll pick up a new calculator while I'm out.

The tri-Lams of Beta Rho Sigma go for the Sweep tonight. It's a shame there's only three games in Cleveland this year.
BostonSox37
No JD or Trot tonight. Payton leading off in CF, Millar in RF, Olerud at 1B. Everything else is normal.

This might have been the game to give Youkilis a start at first considering all the other right handed hitters in the lineup.

Ortiz just misses another one!

Cleveland announcer: "Ortiz and Ramirez have gotten comfortable up there. They (Cleveland) have to pitch them inside."

NEXT PITCH - Lee pitches Ortiz inside - Tizzle rips it for a near HR/double.

I think we should send Papi back to Pawtucket.

He doesn't hit so good...

I heard the same thing and as I was thinking "good luck, pal" Papi raked. And I laughed out loud a Simpsonesque HAH-haaa.
SuperManny
Good thing Trot isn't in RF - he can't hit lefties like Millar can.

Why does Millar bat in front of Tek again?
scotian1
Yeah Millar looked pretty weak at that at bat. His RISP ave. with two outs is below .200.

Good morning. Good afternoon. Goodnight.
SuperManny
With Damon not playing they should have started Trot in LF even against a lefty. Trot could have K'd weakly and we'd have a better fielder out there.
scotian1
Good inning for Miller.
LooiesWindup
see by gamecast that Sizemore doubled, then 2 contact outs plus a swingin K of Hafner. How's Miller looking as far as velocity, location, breaking stuff?
rominer
So, the listing of today's Sox game as being on ESPN turned out to be a lie. But I just saw the Phillies score zero runs after loading the bases with nobody out in the first inning against the Mets. If that's how they manufacture runs in the National League, I'm looking forward to the weekend series...

(And in any case, I'm looking forward to the weekend. Isn't three straight "today feels like it should be Friday" days enough to simply declare it Friday?)
scotian1
Haven't seen his speed registered on the screen yet but he has been jamming hitters with his fastball and they have been popping it up. Even the double was a pop up to short center field. He struck out th e last hitter in the first with his curve.
Just noticied his speed 91-92 mph.

Try it when you're going away Friday morning. It shoulda been the weekend last week end for me.

There's a Manny moment for you... mad.gif
SuperManny
And Manny lost that one in the lights? First error of the season for Manny. On the Cleveland broadcast they think it shouldn't be an error because he lost it in the lights. Either way that looked bad
scotian1
Manny loses ball in lights for a two base error.
scotian1
One unearned run, damn.
SuperManny
Renti - your my boy blue. HR for Edgar
ivebeentruped
EDGAH!!
scotian1
Edgar ties it up!
rominer
Weird. "Watching" on CBS Sportsline's version of Gamecast. Instead of watching pitch locations right now I have it showing the batter's hot/cold zones.

Apparently Edgar's hot zones are top of the strike zone, middle of the plate and outside.

That, and wherever the hell that last pitch to him was. That was obviously his hot zone.
kiransdad
Pissed at them ragging on Bellhorn.

Thanks Edgah for lighting 'em up. That changed the topic REAL fast.
scotian1
It looks like Manny and Payton are destined for a collision.
ivebeentruped
Miller needed that short inning.
scotian1
The bats have gotten quiet. After the last two games are we looking at a pitcher's duel here?
dag2000
Wade Miller looks kind of like Ray Liotta.

Convenient - we'll need an actor to play Miller in the made-for-TV movie after he wins the deciding game of the '05 WS.
Franconian
Zenit - what is your avatar?

Ugh... Bellhorn's strike outs are REALLY growing old. He's hitting like .225 now and .191 in June. His OBP is dipping out of the .330's too...
ivebeentruped
Wade saves a run!
MTSUDaff
Not only does he save himself, and possible our season, but he also gets the out by deflecting it. Nice.

Yes, but strikeouts are relatively harmless outs. headscratch.gif
OrlandoCabrera
Theres no such thing as a harmless out. tongue.gif When is enough going to be enough though? Hopefully Pedroia is called up sooner rather than later... i KNOW he can be a better player than Bellhorn is right now.

Based on what? His success against AA pitching?
scotian1
Well Millar almost drove someone in. Good play by the Cleveland second baseman.
ivebeentruped
This would be a good time for Tek's first career grand slam.

Edit: Or he can chase ball 4 way out of the zone. mad.gif
scotian1
That was ball four!
BostonSox37
Worst. Swing. Ever.

Tek is like that chick from A League of Their Own, he can't lay off the high ones.
