**MOJO** - Periodic Table of the Elements Day 2

Once again, we turn to science to bring the Red Sox the mojo needed to overcome the Toronto Blue Jays.

#30 Zinc
user posted image

Zinc is an incredibly useful mineral. It is used in batteries, in galvanizing metal, and is a vital mineral in keeping a healthy body. It is the fourth most common mineral in use today. In fact it would be hard to imagine a world without zinc.

user posted image

It also would be hard to imagine a Red Sox team without Matt Clement. He has been one of our more consistent starters this year, and has flourished in Boston. With the help of zinc, lets hope Clement can dispatch with the Blue Jays quickly and easily.

#29 Copper
user posted image

Copper his a reddish metal with a high conductivity. Copper is used frequently in wire and conduit for its ease in transmitting energy. Copper also is used much in cookware for it's ability to transmit heat. In fact, copper is one of the few metals used more than zinc is.

Copper is here for Keith Foulke, for a little mojo to help him regain his electric stuff.

user posted image

Of course, let's not forget: What do you get when you start off with zinc and cap it off with copper? Well, in the words of Vince Vaughn in Swingers, you are so money and you don't even know it.

Road game #74 means the supporting element of the evening is tungsten, or the element formerly known as wolfram.

user posted image

Tungsten means "heavy stone" in Swedish and Danish. We know there are enough heavy metal aficionados on the team to make this element particularly apt. There used to be more stoners, but that's another story.

Tungsten has the highest melting point and lowest vapor pressure of all metals, so, like the Red Sox, it can take the heat. Alloys of tungsten are particularly suited for high temperature uses such as lightbulb filaments. Despite its grey to white hue, it can be applied with colorful results: tungsten salts are used in the tanning industry.

And Ortiz said, "Let there be light."

And there was.

Edit: Grammar and all that jazz.

At the risk of running out of elements, Looies would like to add to today's Mojo.

Manganese
user posted image

Manganese is Element 25

As Manganese contains 25 protons, so too do the Red Sox contain 25 core players that function together as a team. The name Manganese derives from the Greek “magnesia” or magnet as to 'draw towards or attract'. Appropriately enough, Manganese is used as an alloy in steel manufacturing where less strong metals are blended together to forge items of great strength and power. Just as the Red Sox as a team are stronger and more powerful than 25 individual players.

Bubba Crosby just drove in a run for the 10th time in his 3-year career. 5-0 Yankees in the first.

We're going to have to win tonight if we want to stay 3 1/2 up on MFY.
blumj
5-0 Yankees, but Brazelton gets out of the inning.

Clement doesnt look very good tonight. His slider isnt breaking sharply and he is not throwing strikes.

Close play at home, but ge was safe. damn

Bases Loaded for D-Rays!
MFLetou
Great start. Nice f---in positioning Millar. Way to play shallow, since hes so god---ned fleet afriggen foot. Nixon or Kapler makes that play.

Guy was safe at home too. Shit. Just what we need.
BostonSox37
I don't get it, for some reason the Jays own Clement. His ERA against them coming into tonight was in the mid 8s. Now we are down 3-0 in the 2nd. Damn.

5-0 now. ****. In Tampa, TB gets 2 back in the first, 5-2.
BigPapiOrtizzle34

I am still watching till the end... you never know with this team

although the jays own Clement
BoSoxGirl75
A couple of bad things this inning. First, I have no idea where Millar was on that play. Second, Clement is still pitching like crap despite the Millar non play. Lastly, the Blue Jay player looked safe to me. I only looked at the play once though. It looked like his hand tagged the bag before Tek tagged him.

We have come from behind to win a game before. It won't be easy, but they can do it.

Also, GO DRAYS!!
rominer
Ok, Toronto. We get it. You could have been someone. You could have been a contender.

BUT YOU BLEW THAT CHANCE A LONG TIME AGO.

So stop pretending like you've got something to play for, and ROLL OVER already.
adamf11
We arent getting 5 runs off this guy, he is the exact prototype the redsox cant hit. A lefty that hits spots with a 90 MPH FB.

Doesn't matter, we will get to the pen if we don't get to him. He has already thrown 48 pitches through 2.1 innings.

As I type this, Graffi grounds out on the 1st pitch. Make it 49 through 2.2.
