Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Joe Blanton (9-11, 3.60) v. Curt Schilling (6-7, 6.28)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather: 3 pm observation at BOS: Few clouds at 400 feet, 2,500 feet overcast, visibility 10 miles, temperature 69F, DP 67F, wind out of the east southeast at 8 mph.

Forecast: Not good. There are several bands of rain with embedded thunderstorms moving southeast associated with a cold front moving from eastern New York. There is a chance of intermittent heavy showers in eastern Massachusetts through the rest of the evening. With a saturated tropical airmass over the region, there's plenty of water available in the atmosphere, so some showers could be very heavy, dropping upwards of an inch of rain.

Be ready for rain delays. They'll most likely try to play this game, as there will be rain-free periods throughout the evening. The "next" batch of rain is in central Massachusetts now, between Worcester and Westfield. Most of it is light to moderate rain, but there are some embedded cells capable of dumping lots of water (with accompanying celestial sound and fury).

Bring a raincoat, and a trash bag to sit on if you're in the "cheap" seats.

Thats what we had in Springfield about two hours ago. If that's heading toward Boston, you'll need more than a raincoat. Pack an ark.

Axis Blunts
In Jamica Plain right now the rain is coming down like I have never seen before. Game is lookng very doubtful if it continues for much longer.
RedSoxAnni
The rain moved into Boston around 4 pm. It's raining moderately now. The heavier rain is southwest of Boston, around the Needham area and in the southwest parts of the city.

It looks like it will take around 2 hours for this "patch" of rain to move through the area, but it's dry behind that - now. With all the moisture in the atmosphere, more showers could develop.

The game is still "on" according to the Sox website.

There are showers in the forecast for tomorrow, too, and the Sox want to play these games this weekend because there isn't much opportunity to play after this week.

Damon back in the lineup

Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon will return to the starting lineup tonight, bat leadoff, and play center field as the Sox take on the Oakland A's at Fenway Park.

**MOJO** - Sauce Day 2

With rain rolling in, we call on some defiant mojo to keep the showers away. We're throwing a barbecue!

user posted image

And what BBQ would be complete with a large helping of BBQ Sauce? Barbecue sauce goes great with just about everything coming off the grill. It's great on chicken, it's great on burgers , it's a must have. Perhaps best of all, is when it is coating a nice rack of ribs.

So say "nerts" to rain and lets have the Red Sox come out slugging against Joe Blanton and the A's. Curt Schilling will be making his first start since taking his trip in the Wayback Machine, and he gets a little something extra since we want his start to be freakin' sweet.

Let's not have any rain ruin our delicious cook out. Dig in folks, the food is straight from the grill. Oh, and you might need this:

LooiesWindup
Looies will bring 2 side dishes to the party:

user posted image user posted image

Potato Salad and Cole Slaw. One is chunky and sticks to the ribs, the other has a tart, tangy sharp taste. Both are essential to any serious B-B-Q. Tonight the Sox need good stout offense and Curt needs to bring his sharpest, tangiest stuff to the mound.

Thanks for the heads up. Now I can run that errand on the way home. Tarp on the field?

Edit, re 7:45 possible start, answers my question.

For today's sauce mojo, I call upon Trot Nixon to give us the good ol' BBQ feel to our bats. They've been a little flat lately, and there's been a lot of troubles, but Trot Nixon will give us the tangy and irresistable spice needed for this offense. Once you get one hit, you can't get enough and you hit the hell out of the pitcher until you can't no more...and if all goes according to plan, it'll be about 20 or so runs....okay so we don't need 20 or so runs...but just enough to spot Schilling.

Red Sox Fan2
I hope not but knowing the Sox it will.

Assuming the game does actually get played, chance to move within 2 1/2 of the ChiSox, who lost this afternoon to the Royals.

Go Schill. Harness that BBQ power.

I have to admit it got a little dusty in here with that last story about the parents taping the games in 1967.

I bet you he was wandering what was going on when they were on losing streaks. Not to mention when they finally lost.
Red Sox Fan2
Why is the Yankee site faster than Game Day? It shows Posada up with 1 out and bases empty and on the Yankee site it shows the D Rays are up to bat.
RedSoxent5
will somebody tell me when Small's deal with the devil will expire??

if he is that good , why it took him this long to have a starting job with a major league club?

Living in Nova Scotia, I haven't had the opportunity to see the stories that NESN are showing about Red Sox Nation. They are great and really after watching those how can I be ungrateful for the memories both good and not so good that they have given me over 43 years of following this team.

he said that his parents only send him the games they won.
Red Sox Fan2
So than I assume he got all the games that they won on a specific time of the week?

Why is Game Day so slow? It shows now that Hollins hit a double but their is no one on second? Their is also only one out and the batter before him flew out. I am very confused.
RedSoxent5
the game is about to start....

GO SOX!!!!!!

Why doesn't Lou have his guys throw @ the CFY?

Oh, and Small is the AntiChrist.

Toby Hall doubles (19) on a line drive to center fielder Bernie Williams. Damon Hollins scores. Alex Gonzalez scores. biggrin.gif

3 straight hits to start the game and its quickly 2-0 Oakland. Terrific way to start the series

I dont know how he gets beat up by KC , TB and Oakland. But shuts down the Yankees like he is Cy Young himself.
