Let me be the first to say it. One game at a time, one day at a time. WIN WIN WIN. These are the Orioles, one of the Worst 2nd half teams in all of the ML. No Raffy, No Sosa...We won't face their best pitcher or Chen, who is a pain in the ass for the sox (all soft tossing lefties are).
This is where the sox make their stand. Take down the O's, let Cabrera implode and walk a bunch of guys. I predict a good game for Beaumont Texas's favorite son, Kevin Millar. Win one for the folks at home, Kev. Plus, he does well against hard throwers!

MOJO** - Perseverance Day 1
In the past 2 days, the Red Sox have lost a game and a half to the dreaded Yankees, and now sit in second place just out of a playoff spot. This has caused many a Red Sox fan to entrench themselves firmly in "doom and gloom" mode, something we had all hoped we had seen the last of last October.
However, this is like quitting in the last 100 meters of a marathon. You've been keeping the faith in the Red Sox all year. Many have been doing it for their entire lifetime. Now, all is asked of you is to do it for 10 more days. Sure, it's a long season, and many of you are tired (as many of the Red Sox are, 30 days in 30 games will do that to you), but that is no reason to give up.
If your spirit is cramping up, just grab yourself a Gatorade and speed those mojo electrolytes back into your system.

Win one more than NYY over the next 7 and take 2 of 3 at home. This is no miracle. This will be business as usual.

And I'll throw some of my own mojo, which was successful last time, behind these guys.
Since it was successful, I'm sticking with the candy theme.
We all know what time it is. It's the stretch run, the pennant drive, the last ten games of the season. But here's another nice little cliche for you:
It's CRUNCH time!

That's right, time to buckle down and chew those little crispy things they put inside the chocolate. As a matter of fact, I have a bunch of little CRUNCH bars right here. (I'm a fan of 100 Grand, and I polished those off pretty quick in the big mix bag.)
Also associated with the word 'crunch' is everyone's guilty pleasure cereal:

This is the term I use to affectionately refer to the Nation's Captain. Unless he's slumping, then it's Captain Crap. But if he homers, Captain Crash.

By the way, I'd post a picture of Crunch Berries, but these guys need to prove they have berries before they can get that reference up.
So let's go out there, gentlemen, and CRUNCH the little orange birds.
Do this.

Cabrera's ERA is 2.41 for the month of September, over 100 pitches in each of his 3 starts, only making it into the 7th inning once.
9/6 Toronto scored no runs off him in 7 innings.
9/12 Texas scored 2 runs against him in 5.2 innings of work.
9/18 Tampa Bay scored 4 runs off him in 6 innings of work.
I like the progression of runs scored against. So Boston should score 6 runs off him in 4.2 innings of work.
Our guys have seen this guy enough this year that they should more or less know what they are going to get today. This will give our offense a much needed edge.
My "Out On a Limb (OOL) prediction of the day is that Rent will step it up after a full day's rest and some sweet lovin from his honey and will hit 3 for 4, 3 rbis, 1 bb, and be good for assisting in at least 2 DPs.
Also, we are now accepting nominations for the
WHINER OF THE GAME THREAD (wotgt) award given to the most annoyingly pessissimistic poster of the day to be awarded at the end of the game.
Whiner winners will have the opportunity to kiss my

The gun might be "a joke" as you put it, but Cabrera has been clocked at 100-101 multiple times in both major league, and minor league ballparks. The kid throws gas.

I know he does. But no starting pitcher throws 100 consistantly, you know that. He does throw gas, he throws mid to high 90s. I know you don't live down here, but everyone, even the O's broadcasters, admit that the Baltimore gun is off.

How did the BJs get out of that second inning? Shaun Marcum replaces Ted Lilly.
Marcum does not have a big league picture yet.
Walks Arod, bases loaded with no outs. Then Marcum gets a force out and a double play. Things could be turning the corner there (knock on wood).

I hear you. Most ballparks have guns that lie anyway, and no, nobody throws consistantly at 100+ mph. But he cn dial it up and get to the triple digits, which is why his control is a problem. It can't be easy to aim a 100 mph fastball.

Quick sidebar for those who do not know the story. Sandy Koufax first came up to the Dodgers in their last year in Brooklyn and would pitch at about 100 mph, but had control problems for his first two or three years. A pitching coach told him to let up just a bit to regain control. He did and turned into Sandy freakin' Koufax.
Just saying.
