Scheduled starters: David Wells (15-7, 4.45) v. Mark Buehrle (16-8, 3.12)
The game will be on ESPN
Chicago Weather: Noon CDT (1 pm EDT) observation at ORD: Few clouds at 3,900 feet, visibility 10 miles, temperature 80F, DP 64F, wind out of the southwest at 14 mph, gusting to 22 mph.

QUOTE
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, that you've been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand.
I would understand.
The angry boy,
a bit too insane,
Icing over a secret pain,
You know you don't belong,
You're the first to fight,
You're way too loud,
You're The flash of light,
on a burial shroud,
I know something's wrong,
Well everyone I know has got a reason,
to say,
put the past away,
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies,
That you've been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again,
I would understand,
I would understand.
And well he's on the table,
and he's gone to code,
And I do not think anyone knows,
What they are doing here,
And your friends have left you,
You've been dismissed.
I never thought it would come to this,
and I, I want you to know,
Everyone's got to face down the demons,
Maybe today,
We can put the past away,
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend.
You could cut ties with all the lies,
that you've been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again,
I would understand,
I would understand,
I would understand...
(I would understand)
(I would understand)
(Understand)
Ya ya ya ya ya...
Can you put the past away?
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
I would understand
(I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,)
I would understand
(I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,)
And I would understand
(I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,)
I would understand
(I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,)
And I would understand...

100th POST MOJOThis is my 100th post... maybe that's good for something....
From Jim Devlin in another thread:
QUOTE
In the ten years of Division Series history, the team that has won the first game has won the series 25 out of 40 times (62.5%). However, a sweep occurred only 35% of the time (14 series) - a series was just as likely to go 4 games (14 times - 35%) or 5 games (12 times - 30%).
In the last three years (2002-04), Division Series play has gotten even more competitive. The team winning game 1 went on to win the series 7 out of 12 times (58.3%), but recorded only two sweeps (2002 St. Louis over Arizona and 2004 Sox over the Angels). The other ten times, the series were split five times apiece between 4 games and 5 games.
It starts today....

You know who would have loved the spectacle of a title defense? JP Villaman, aka "Papa Oso". La voz de las Medias Rojas en radio Español (The Red Sox' Spanish radio voice), JP was killed in an automobile accident earlier this year. A homer who was even worse than our opponents' own Hawk Harrelson, he unapologetically cheered the Sox on from the booth, and after Minky recorded the final out of the 2004 World Series, he repeated yelled "¡Boston gana!" ("Boston wins") in jubilation.
In their article about JP's death, the Globe wrote:
"He was an unabashed fan of the Red Sox, so enamored with the team that he would hug, even kiss, players before interviewing them. In Game 4 of the World Series last year, he got so excited when pitcher Keith Foulke threw the ball to first, sealing the Red Sox's 86-year curse-ending victory, his voice cracked during the broadcast.
'Boston gana!' ('Boston wins!') he screamed into the microphone seven times, so loudly his voice became raspy.
His adoration was practically unprofessional, but Villaman did not care, said Uri Berenguer, his co-host for the last four years on WROL-AM, home of the Spanish Beisbol Network."
Adelante, Medias Rojas, y ganan uno por Papa Oso. (Go Red Sox, and win one for Papa Oso).

MOJO** - The Veldt ALDS Game 2
After a disastrous Game 1, the Sox look to rebound with a split in US Cellular to take back with them to Friendly Fenway. The match up will feature two marquee match up of two lefties, Mark Buehrle and David Wells.
To help the Red Sox even up the series, we take some inspiration from
Jungle Mojo, and mark the return of the
wayback machine. And we turn to one of the United States fightingest president, Teddy Roosevelt, as we take a trip to the African Veldt.

With the Red Sox, it seems they never want to do things the easy way, and the same was true of Teddy Roosevelt, who dedicated himself to living "the strenuous life". He routinely participated in tennis, rowing, hiking, polo and even boxing. In fact he would spar regularly while Governor of New York and even continued during his Presidency, until a blow to the left eye left him blind in that eye. And if we know one thing about Teddy Roosevelt, it is that he would not go down quietly.

So it's time for the Red Sox to return to the field with their jungle instincts and take one from the White Sox to even the series. Teddy Roosevelt would have wanted it that way.
Bully!

Apparently I need to produce some mojo of Ridgeleyeseque proportions to get this team past yesterdays shellacking at US Cellular. First of all, that's a pansy, weak-ass name for a stadium, field, or park. It's the type of name that a celebrity would give their child, like "Acorn" or "Butternut". That's completely beside the point, though.
When I was thinking of mojo, my mind wandered to bands from across the sea. The most all-encompassingly-named-band-that-rocks ever, more specifically. That band is Europe, and their song that rings true as we trod through October is "The Final Countdown."

Oh taste the tears people, they taste like happy.

God can't be a White Sox fan. Before you get all faux-enraged by this statement, let me explain.
The White Sox haven't won in 88 years. Not a goddamn thing. Some would say that is proof alone that God isn't a White Sox fan, whereas others could construe that to mean that he is, and he's denying himself this as a sign to his followers that he can take pain like the rest of them. Neither of these theories are true.
My theory hinges upon the fact that God is a really hot chick, and the White Sox are that kid in high school who nobody talks to and jerks off 7 times a day. The White Sox keep hitting on God, and once every fifteen years or so God leads them on to think that they're going to get in the sack with her. So God let's them in the playoffs, and then knocks them out in the first round. The White Sox pretty much spend $250 on dinner at Citronelle every once and a while, and then get kicked in the balls when they walk God to her door. God doesn't like you, she's toying with you.
Now piss off. Your joke wasn't even funny, and certainly didn't warrant this response.

Today to take on the mojo of time travel, I call upon John Olerud to take on the 93 and 00 versions of himself and bring us over these White Sox. He was on the 93 Jays that beat the ChiSox, and the 00 Mariners that beat the ChiSox, as previously referenced by our esteemed ChiSox fans on board(seriously though, nice to have you aboard, best of luck in the series and the like...may the best team win, whomever it may be) May Olerud have that sweet swing working for him tonight and give him the extra edge. For jungle mojo, I call upon another old timer, David Wells. May his pitches be as harsh and unforvinging as the jungle climate and may the defense behind them be as quick as a the panther, as intense as a tiger, and be loyal to his pitching job like the lion. Olerud and Boomer, we're counting on you guys tonight amongst your other teammates. Show us what you're made of, bitches!
