BOSTON --Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon, a key member of Boston's 2004 World Series Championship team, filed for free agency on Friday, along with second baseman Tony Graffanino.

Graffanino, acquired midway through the 2005 season from Kansas City, was an upgrade at second base for the Red Sox, but had a damaging error during Boston's playoff series loss to Chicago.

Graffanino deserves better from all of us than paragraphs such as this.

I don't expect Graffy back, but he played over his head to get us to the ALDS. In particular, I'm going to remember his heads-up baserunning.

Thanks, Graffy.

He didnt have a "damaging" error, we had damaged pitching...

If Graffi is indeed gone then I bid him a fond farewell, and good luck with the team he signs with...

Thanks for playing the game right, Tony..

Sign them both. But first sign Theo.

Couldn't have said it better. I will miss Graffy too.

BTW...What is it with revolving 2nd basemen...It's like the Mets with 3rd basemen. Maybe Pedroia will be the answer come July or so.

Yeah, I am getting sick of hearing about that error. The real Sox got steamrolled by a team that owned this season and went 11-1 in the post-season. Case closed.

Assuming he is not going to be back, thanks Graffanino, wish you were playing for the Sox all season.

Now it's time for the Price is Right with your host, Johnny of Nazareth.

July????

Try when the team travels north....Unless he absolutely does nothing in spring training, he will be the opening day starting 2nd baseman for the 2006 Boston Red Sox...

(Jesus, I hope I didnt just jinx the kid)..

Im with this line of thinking. Sign them both (and Theo), and start Graff at the beginning of next year, then try out Pedroia and pick the better of the two, around midseason.
millar goes yard
And let's not forget after this 'damaging error' (not that I didn't yell an obscenity when I saw it, but let's face it, we were going down the playoff toilet this year whether he makes that play or not), he answered the bell with a double in his last at bat when many more notable bats in the lineup seemed to have quit.

After watching a whole year of Todd Walker in '03, Graffy's defense was an absolute joy to watch, and he hit very well in Fenway. I really hope he returns as I think he's the best second basemen we have had in quite some time... but whereever he ends up, I wish him the best of luck. A scrappy, intelligent player and from all accounts, a stand up guy as well. Good luck, Tony.
