This being post 406 for me, I figured I'd start a thread on him. Anyone here get to see Williams in person? Feel free to share any good Ted stories or anecdotes.

Being born in '56, I never got to see him play. I did see him when he was managing the Senators in '69. I've read so much on him tho, I almost feel like I watched him his entire career. He actually passed away on my 46th birthday in '02. '46 was Ted's only World series appearance and a MVP year. Oddly enough my father was born on Babe Ruth's birthdate and Babe passed away on my brothers' birthdate. Scary, huh ? My favorite Ted story is when he was struck out by a young pitcher named Pedro Ramos. Ramos was so excited that he struck out the great Ted Williams that he went over to the Sox dugout after the game and wanted Ted to sign the ball for him. Ted naturally refused until Ramos started to cry and Ted said, "crissakes, give me the ball and I'll sign it." The next time Ted faced Ramos he crushed one into the right field bleachers. As he rounded third he shouted at Ramos, " Hey if you can find that SOB I'll sign that one too." Classic Ted......
