It was with sadness I read of the passing of Amy Malzone, the wife of former Red Sox third baseman Frank Malzone. He will always be special to me as he was the third baseman on the team whan as a youngster I first started following the Sox. My prayers go out to you and your family Mr. Malzone and I am sorry for your loss.

Amelia M. "Amy" (Gennarino) Malzone died on Wednesday January 25 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was 74 years old.

Born in Oneonta New York, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Tanzanni) Gennarino. She was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Oneonta NY. Mrs. Malzone was a longtime member of the Boosters Club at Needham High School and an avid supporter of athletics both at Needham High and in the town of Needham. She was a volunteer for 15 years at the Coffee Shop at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham.

An active member of Saint Bartholomew Church, Amelia was a member and a hostess of the Saint Bart’s Book Club. She will be lovingly remembered by friends and most especially her family as a giving, loving and caring person who was devoted to her family.

The beloved wife for 54 years of Frank J. Malzone, she was the dear mother of Jimmy of Needham, Paul and his wife Carina of Lancaster, Frank and his wife Nancy of Millis, Anne O’Neill and her husband David of Westwood, John and his wife Katie of Bellingham and the late Suzanne Malzone. Sister of Ralph Gennarino, Katherine Biss, Frances Hodges, Lawrence Gennarino and the late John Gennarino. Cherished “Nona” of John and his wife Andrea, Joe, Amanda, Frankie Jr. , Jennifer, Julia and Olivia and her great grandchildren Michael and Maria.

Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Monday January 30 at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Bartholomew Church at 10:00 AM. Elatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 3-7 PM. Interment at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Needham.

In lieu of flowers donations in Amelia’s name may be made to The Association of Marian Helpers, Eden Hill, Stockbridge MA 01263.

i can never imagine the hurt of losing a wife after 54 years.
