1922: "He only appeared in one major league game, but it was a day to forget. Cleveland pitcher Doc Hamann entered the game in the ninth inning with his team down 9-5. He walked the first two Red Sox batters, hit the next batter, and then walked in a run. A triple by Red Sox centerfielder Elmer Miller drove in three more. Hamann took a deep breath, then gave up a single, a wild pitch, and another single. After failing to get out even one batter and being charged with six earned runs, Hamann was sent packing. His career ERA is infinity."

During the game, both benches emptied with Don Zimmer charging Pedro and being tossed to the ground. Later, Yankees' reliever Jeff Nelson got into an altercation with a groundskeeper in the bullpen. Yankees' right fielder Karim Garcia leapt over the bullpen wall to join the attack.

1999: Pedro Martinez throws 6 innings of no-hit ball in relief, as the Red Sox win the deciding game of the ALDS versus Cleveland. Troy O'Leary hits a grand slam and a 3-run homer, each after Nomar was walked intentionally.

1975: Luis Tiant shuts out Cincinnati 6-0 in Game 1 of the World Series.

1967: The Red Sox even the World Series at three games apiece, beating the Cardinals 8-4 at Fenway Park. The Boston starter was rookie Gary Waslewski, who had made only eight starts in his big league career. Rico Petrocelli homered twice.

1916: The Red Sox take a three games to one lead in the World Series by beating Brooklyn 6-2. Larry Gardner hits a 3-run inside the park home run.

1915: The Red Sox take a two games to one lead in the World Series by beating Philadelphia 2-1. Duffy Lewis singles in the winning run in the 9th inning.

1912: The Red Sox beat the Giants 3-1, at the Polo Grounds, in Game 4 of the World Series behind Smoky Joe Wood. After the game, the players were bomarded with dirt and stones by rowdy fans, with Buck O'Brien hit in the face, and cut, by a sharp stone.

The police had to be called in, and the game was delayed while the matter was brought under control.
