According to the Manchester Union Leader, Oil Can Boyd will pitch for the Nashua Pride this year:

Kevin Gray - On Baseball: Oil Can to pitch for Pride

DUST OFF your old Red Sox cards. Slender, self-styled “Oil Can” Boyd will pitch another season, and he’s coming to Nashua.

That’s great news for the Pride, who are making a move to the short-season Can-Am League under new ownership this year. The 46-year-old Boyd will certainly put fans in the seats at Holman Stadium.

Last season, more than 2,000 fans came to watch Boyd pitch for the Brockton Rox — in an exhibition game.

He unofficially joined the Pride yesterday after hammering out a tentative contract for the 2006 season.

Tell him that's Lake Massabesic, and that Manchester is NOT near an ocean![b]

Former Sox pitcher reaches tentative agreement with Pride

Pride Manager Butch Hobson says Boyd, 46, is a good pitcher with a passion for the game. He said he expects the former big leaguer also will be a role model for his younger players.

Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd made headlines for the Nashua Pride without ever throwing a pitch for them.

But now it doesn’t look like he’ll be making any news on the field for the team.

Pride manager Butch Hobson confirmed yesterday that talks with the former Red Sox pitcher, which have been going on for the past few weeks, have broken off and it now appears the colorful pitcher won’t be playing for the team this summer.

“Oil Can is going through some life issues that are very difficult right now,” Hobson said. “It was best for us to move in another direction.”

Boyd, 46, was indicted in a federal court in Mississippi of five counts of threatening to injure. He is accused of making five telephone calls threatening a former girlfriend and her son, and faces a sentence of up to 25 years in prison if convicted. The case has not been settled.

“We wanted to make sure Oil Can could take care of some things that are pending,” Hobson said. “Dennis has a lot of issues that prohibit him from being able to focus on (playing baseball).”

In other words, there's a chance that the Can may end up in the CAN...
