ARLINGTON, Texas -- Curtis Montague Schilling, better known as gehrig38 to the online community and "Curt on the car phone" to Boston sports radio listeners, makes his first Opening Day start for the Red Sox today against Texas - and the first one since 1999, when he was sporting a mullet with the Phillies.

Scouting the Red Sox

RHP Curt Schilling (8-8, 5.69 ERA in 2005): Schilling is making his first opening day start since 1999 – and his first-ever start at Ameriquest Field in Arlington. He called spring training this year "normal," because it didn't include the high drama of last year's rushed recovery from ankle surgery. Schilling, however, pitched only eight "A" game innings this spring. He allowed 10 hits and six runs, but walked only one batter.
