I'm watching as well... I thought this game might get rained out, but apparently not!

Damon K's in his first official Yankee at-bat; Giambi makes an error on his first chance. Well, that's all good.

No score, end of one.
jsinger121
what a pathetic right side of the infield the yankees will have on defense
jenny
It's official: Johnny is gone. Not like in the dream I had a few weeks ago where he quit baseball to go to Iraq and was KIA. It's real: he's officially *one of them.*

He looks nervous. SO in 1st AB.

rominer
I just have to say it one more time:

Damon looks like a f**king idiot in that uniform.

I was glad to see him K. Glad to see the strike one call go against him (looked high). Glad to see him swing the bat as weakly as he throws the ball on strike two. Glad to see him look like a fool on Zito's big curve for strike three.

And yet, I can't quite bring myself to hate him. That may change come May 1. But right now, it's more like watching some sort of bizarro world/ bad dream. I can only hope Mr. Damon feels the same as the season wears on. thumbsup.gif
jenny
UPDATE: Damon gets first RBI. Still looks dumb in that outfit.

EDIT: I don''t hate him, I feel bad for him. He has to regret it.

Zito is absolutely brutal...
jsinger121
Get this bum Zito out of the game. He is such an overrated pitcher
BostonSox37
Grand slam A-Rod, Zito really blows.
jenny
Whew...grand slam ARod
Sox Sweep Again
12th career GS for the reigning MVP, (*vomit*) and this game is still in the second inning.

Yankees need only 993 runs to score 1,000, and they haven't even exhausted their first six outs of the season!
jsinger121
Zito sucks now.....Billy Beane should have got rid of him when his value was still somewhat high

Zito's lost 5 straight to the Yankees. Make it 6. Macha should have kept him out of this series. Hindsight is very 20 - 20.
BostonSox37
The big hurt>the big unit.
JustinShaype
Thanks for showing up tonight, Zito.... banghead.gif

At least I can go to bed early.
LooiesWindup
well, you missed putting the Big Hurt on the Big Unit. Thomas takes RJ into the CF upperdeck for #449 and ding-dong in his first A's AB.
Sox Sweep Again
Well, at least Johnson is still allowing long home runs...
SFFM38
holycrap 11-1 now!! chop suey jack one, however I do rather to see MFY being hot right now and then gets "COLD" later on, unlike they were COLDDDD in April and May last year and then they got wicked hot later on!

SSA: btw 989 runs to go now banghead.gif
CTLovesTheSox
Zito was absolutely terrible. Looked like he was gonna be ok after the 2 walks in the first and then the K of Giambi. The 2nd was a different story. After the 2 walks, he was lost out there. Not a good way to start the contract year, Barry.

It's now the 4th inning, and every Yankee has a hit and has scored a run. (Well, no hits for Damon yet, but he's not a True Yankee).

11-1 in the 4th, and I hope they use up all their offense tonight.
jsinger121
13-1 now.....good job ken macha starting that bum zito over rich harden

That was fun! Great opener. Now I'm tired.smile.gif

I started off watching the game as well, but once Zito gave up the GS I promptly changed the channel.

You and I changed the channel at exactly the same time. Cosmic.
Zito had Zippo.

Congratulations! Zito walked two batters in the first, walked the two leadoff batters in the second inning, a few singles fell in, and A Rod hit a home run against a flyball pitcher who didn't have his control that night. The game was essentially over at that point.

It must have been a fun win! Still, I'm not convinced that the Yankees are anywhere near as good as they looked--Zito wasn't effective, and Zito always allows home runs--we'll see how they do against a pitcher who has his stuff.
Vic Daring
Well.

That didn't go so well.

161 more to play. And you're never as good or as bad as you look when you're on one end or the other of one of these games.

Harden will silence the Yankee bats.

Harden will slience a lot of bats this year. He will easily be one of the top 5 pitchers in the AL this year if he stays healthy. I drafted him pretty high in all of my fantasy leagues for a reason.

If they play. It's raining, back East style today, cats and dogs or whatever you say nowadays. It's supposed to continue into tonight, tomorrow and into next week. Even had hail and thunder in the forecast. I asked a Lockheed guy today if they could start building an ark in the back 40. It has literally rained for 40 days and 40 nights here (well, might have had a few hours of sunshine in there). One reason I moved here was for the weather! At least we don't have to shovel it. GO Sox!

Thanks! Yeah, it was definately fun to watch. After having waited months to see a real baseball game it was certainly a good start to the season. Good pitching and good hitting! For at least a day I'm happy as hell! smile.gif

You guys didn't have a bad opener yourselves!

Yes but as always, we have something to worry about in Keith Foulke.

What did you think of A's management's decision to not sell any of the upper deck seats? To me, it's a sad statement as to their ability to put fannies in seats out here. Of course, nothing new here, and when the Red Sox (or Yankees) are in town, it sounds more like they're the home team than the A's. There's renewed talk of a new stadium for the A's, and a new town, Fremont is being mentioned. I wonder where the A's will be 20 years from now.

Yeah, I am a bit worried about our closer too. He hasn't pitched in a while and I was hoping he'd get some work last night. They keep writing his obituary all over so I'm curious to see if he can still get people out. smile.gif

I thought it was a dumb idea on the tier seats myself. They could have sold those seats last night regardless of who was in town. It was opening day. They should have opened them and sold the tix for at least the first three games. Apparently they are trying to give that dump an 'intimate' feel and create ticket demand. As if that's possible in AL Davis land! Seemed to me like they could have filled the seats against the Yanks and then put the tarps up there on thursday. Oh well.. it's a dumb field anyhow, too much foul room. But I'll still love the place again once the Raiders suit up again in September!
Chowdahhead210
Zito sucked last night. Oh well, I guess my hopes of the yankees going 0-162 are just a dream now. 1-161 is almost as good.
