Someone might have to correct me if I'm wrong about how the waivers work...

But it seems like the MFY got Koyie Hill for a reason... maybe because the Red Sox were interested in adding a new reserve catcher?

Just a few days ago rumor central on ESPN.com and other news sources reported our interest... I guess the Yankees are just that badly in need of a 3rd string catcher.

The Yankees pick behind us on waiver deals. We obviously let him pass.

Don't the Yankees pick first considering the Sox currently have a better record?

Umm...........no.
The Yankees DFA'd Nieves just prior to claiming Hill.
If someone were to claim Nieves, there would be alot less chance the Yankees would be left without a third catcher (since Ben Davis is hurt) by claiming Hill.

Hill eventually cleared waivers too and was sent down.
Not a bad move when you consider he replaced Joge DePaula on the 40 man roster.

I think the Yankees eventually DFA'd him as well.

I believe for the first month of the season (possibly two months), the waiver priority reverts to the final standings from last year. So the Sox pick ahead of the Yankees until May 1 or June 1.

Right, and he cleared waivers (so Boston passed on him again), and was outrighted to Columbus. The Yankees have both Nieves and Hill in AAA now.
