1912 -- Fenway Park was opened in Boston and the Red Sox defeated the visiting New York Yankees 7-6 in 11 innings. Tiger Stadium in Detroit also opened its doors as the Tigers defeated the Cleveland Indians 6-5.


1939 -- In his first major league game, Ted Williams hit a 400-foot double in four at-bats as the Boston Red Sox lost 2-0 to New York at Yankee Stadium.

Arizona Diamondbacks - -Activated pitcher Brandon Medders from the 15-day disabled list; sent pitcher Casey Daigle to Tucson (PCL).
Baltimore Orioles - Purchased the contracts of pitcher Eddy Rodriguez and outfielder Luis Terrero from Ottawa (Int.); placed pitcher Tim Byrdak on the 60-day disabled list; optioned outfielder Val Majewski to Ottawa (Int.).
Cincinnati Reds - Optioned pitcher Michael Gosling to Louisville (Int.).
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim - Placed pitcher Bartolo Colon on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 16; recalled pitcher Kevin Gregg from Salt Lake (PCL).
MLB - Fined San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Bonds $5,000 for violating baseball's apparel rules.
Texas Rangers - Placed infielder Mark DeRosa on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 15; purchased the contract of infielder Drew Meyer from Oklahoma (PCL); transferred pitcher Adam Eaton from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
