Twomley had hoped to start the season with the Class-A Greenville (S.C.) Drive of the South Atlantic League, a step up from Lowell.
His baseball dreams, at least for the time being, have been put on hold in the baseball limbo known as extended spring training. Rather than a trip to Greenville or anywhere in the Sox minor league system to start the season, Twomley was kept in Fort Myers.
He simply did not beat out the outfielders/first basemen who made the Greenville team, Cherington said. He needs to continue to improve the consistency of his at-bats and defensively at first base. He is playing both outfield and first base now to increase his versatility.
Twomley, surprised and disappointed at being kept in Florida, retains the optimism of a young hopeful.
