At 27 years old, it's probably not appropriate to call Seibel a "prospect" any more, but he's having a very good season and is, perhaps, working his way back to being in the Major League mix.
You may remember Seibel as a guy with a World Series ring for his 3.2 innings worth of work with the 2004 Red Sox. They had claimed him off waivers from the Mets the previous offseason, and brought him up for two appearances in April.
The left-hander, a former 8th-round draft pick of the Expos, missed all of last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but the Red Sox stuck with him. After 4 good starts in Low-A with Greenville (2-0 with a 1.35 ERA), he got bumped up to AA Portland in late April, where his success has continued.
Seibel threw 5 shutout innings in Portland's win yesterday, bringing his AA stats to:
W-L: 1-3
IP: 30
ERA: 1.80
H: 19
Runs: 11
ER: 6
BB: 9
K: 27
HR: 5
WHIP: 0.93
Don't be surprised to see him in the Pawtucket rotation later this year.
