Game time: 2:05 pm
Scheduled starters: Corey Lidle (4 -6, 5.00) v. Tim Wakefield (5-8, 3.82)
Boston weather: 11 am observation at BOS: Wind out of the east at 7 mph, visibility 1 1/2 miles in light rain and mist, broken clouds at 400 feet with 800 overcast, temperature 65F, DP 63F
Forecast: The question is - will we dodge another bullet? Boston stayed relatively dry yesterday, while areas only 20-30 miles southwest reported between 3-4 inches of rain!
The front, as noted yesterday, is slowly moving northwestward, and Boston is now within the edges of the rain shield. The heaviest rain is still to the south and southeast. At 11 am, radar indicated an area of convection near New Bedford, but nothing in the Boston area.
The front will continue to slip off toward the northwest, and the frontal boundary will reform inland. There's some "energy" in the upper atmosphere, that, combined with the weakening front, will product lift that could result in heavy downpours. As is typical with these systems, it will not rain everywhere all the time, and localized areas can get heavy rain while others do not.
There's a chance of rain, with a potential for heavy downpours, all afternoon. There's also a decent chance that they'll get this game in, but they may not start on time.
The wind will likely be blowing in, but won't be much of a factor.

With 13 straight games coming up starting on Tuesday, let's hope they can get this one in today. Any kind of off day before a long stretch like that helps.

*Mojo-Military Campaign Mojo-Day 9*The Red Sox campaign to take the American League East rolls on. Nevertheless, some battles are more difficult than others. Fore example, yesterday’s extra innings nailbiter.

John Paul Jones, in command of the
USS Bonhomme Richard engaged the British fleet led by the
Serapis.
Serapis had the numerical advantage (quality and quality of her guns) as the
Bonhomme Richard was a converted merchant ship, not designed for naval combat. At one point in the battle, the
Bonhomme Richard’s colors were shot off the mast, causing the British to inquire whether the Americans were surrendering.
John Paul Jones responded with these immortal words:
QUOTE
I have not yet begin to fight
John Paul Jones then proceeded to close with the
Serapis boarding the British ship and eventually forcing surrender.
Indeed, late into yesterday’s game, it took balls-on performances from Paps to extinguish a potential Philadelphia rally that set the stage for Papi’s monster mash into the CF triangle tarp.
Philadelphia Phutillies-Let it be known. The Red Sox have begun to fight. Yesterday was the exception. We do not need extra innings. Wakes’ flutterballs will feint in and out of the zone, baffling the Phutillies as the Red Sox lineup will rake Cory Lidle and the rest of the the Philly pitchers up down, over, and all around the park.

That is the great thing about Tropicana field. I thought we were going to have a tornado there yesterday around 4:30, but with the stadium there no worries.
I had great seats, the same ones I will have on July 4th verses the Red Sox. Right at home plate of the bullpen, in the second row off the field. We decided to buy tickets for the game on July 3rd as well and spend the night, with a trip to the beach between times. We will go back on the next Sunday to see the Rays take on the Yankees.
Can't wait!!

Bummer...
Boston is right on the edge of the rain now. Out here in the NW suburbs, it's dry! It's gray and gloomy, but there's no rain - yet. That whole system is going to slide northwest, though, over the next couple hours, and Boston will be in it until evening. So it's probably a good call to postpone the game.
Looks like Astros/White Sox on ESPN tonight for those of us who need our baseball fix...

And one last time for the wknd, thanks Fox/MLB for not showing yesterday's game on EI. Now no Sox baseball all weekend for those of us on the west coast. Well done.

Ehh, I hate domes personally. Nothing beats being at a baseball stadium on a nice summer day with the sun shinning.

If you guys are getting the same thing that hit us in DC this morning, you're really in for it. It was a torrential downpour for about 4 hours. Just a flooded, nasty mess. I didn't know it could rain so hard for so long.

SM,
You spend much time in Florida during the months of June, July and August?
100 degrees and 100% humidity isn't fun unless you are on the beach or in a pool. Not to mention, we get the torrential downpours almost every day.
No wonder the Marlins don't draw. Of course the Drays don't either, but that has to due with the quality of the team, year in and year out.
Are they making the game up tomorrow?

Is it really that bad?
Particularly sucks because I missed yesterday's game buying a car, and then I had it scheduled to be picked up tomorrow night because no game. Now, of course I guess there still will be no game, but now nobody will see it.

Looks like if it was a 1pm start they could have made it, probably just the safer bet to PPD at this point, but the rain isn't really moving all that fast right now, as the heaviest is still down in RI.

Could they have gotten it in? Probably but hindsight is 20/20. Tomorrow afternoon is supposed to be a lot better. The afternoon wasn't a total waste. Niece and Nephew got to wear Papa Jack's World Series Ring, take pictures with him, and got a sweet tour of the Park (into the dugout, on field, on the monster, in press box, etc)...........for free!

Ya they definately could have made it, the heaviest rain is getting in within an hr or so. Only problem is that tomorrow (and the rest of the week for that matter) doesn't look all that great...

Blame Coco!
Phillies-Red Sox rained outBOSTON --When the Boston Red Sox acquired Coco Crisp in an offseason trade with Cleveland, they knew they were getting a speedy center fielder who could provide a spark at the top of the lineup.
What they didn't know was a series of rainouts came in the deal.
"When I came to Cleveland, I brought the bad weather there," Crisp said. "I knew it would come to Boston because it follows me wherever I go. California's beautiful, but I go there and it starts raining."The umpires made the decision, seeing this was the last trip Philly had into Boston...
A slight drizzle fell on Fenway Park at game time, but wet grounds and a forecast that called for rain throughout the afternoon and evening prompted the umpires to postpone the game roughly an hour before it was scheduled to start.
After waiting through a 4-hour, 47-minute rain delay against Texas two weeks earlier, the Red Sox were happy a decision was made so promptly.
"If you're going to lose an off day, at least the guys can get out of here and have the rest of the day," Francona said. "That's really helpful, that's really considerate. Obviously your first choice is to play, but I think it would have been a long day."

I was looking forward to that, but it looks like its marlin/yanks and you know whats amazing? there not many fans at the toilet stadium, I was shocked I was expecting to see it crowded and everything, but nope! ESPN must have changed their mind and air this game instead, fine with me as long as we get 1/2 game back

I LOVE early starts any day of the week. Monday's game will start at 9:00 p.m. my time. Kids will be in bed, beer in the fridge. So what if I stay up until midnight - it's only work I'll have to do the next morning!
