Game Time: 7:05 pm
Scheduled Starters: Pedro Martinez (7-3, 3.01) v. Josh Beckett (9-3, 4.84)
Boston weather: noon observation at BOS: Wind out of the south at 16 mph, visibility 3 miles in rain and mist, few clouds at 1,900 feet, broken clouds at 2,400 feet, overcast at 3,600 feet, temperature 71F, DP 66F
Forecast: Not real good... The rain started here in Medford about a half hour ago, and it's raining pretty hard...
There are likely to be periods of rain with thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. There's a large area of rain moving toward the east. It's a fast-moving system, though, and it's possible that we could get a window and be able to play. Right now, there's covective activity in central NH, but nothing in the Boston area or Central MA. The models are forecasting the heaviest rain west of the Connecticut River.
We'll provide updates during the day.

*Mojo-Military Campaign Mojo-Day 11*He was second in his class at West Point. He had a distinguished career in the U.S. Army. He was probably one of the finest commanders that this country has ever known. Even so, he ended his career in the service of another nation.
Robert E. Lee remains a controversial figure in U.S. History. For all of his tactical brilliance, he nevertheless spent nearly half a decade leading a valiant, but ultimately defeated army. Even so, from 1862 to 1863, Lee fought a series of battles (Seven Days, second Battle of Bull Run (Manassas), Antietam, Chancellorsville where the Confederate Army more than held their own. Despite heavy casualties on both sides, in 1863, the Union Army finally turned the tide at the battle of Gettysburg.

Petey-you were the greatest, simply the best pitcher that most of us have ever seen or will ever see in our lifetimes. We respect your accomplishments, we love your passion for the game, and we admire your indomitible will to win. As much as anyone, you made the Miracle of 2004 a reality. Legends blur the indisputable facts of your reign of dominance in Boston, even as the memories of those summer and fall days remain with us.
Mojo welcomes your return to Fenway and will stand and join the cheers for your introduction. Bottom half of the first inning. Winding up to deliver the first pitch. Time plays tricks as we once again see, not the Blue and Orange of New York, but the Red White and Blue of Boston.
As the pitch leaves your hand, the magic vanishes. Youks warily eyes the incoming pitch and plans his attack, the first shot in a nine inning battle. Josh Beckett, backed by the offensive salvo, will have his full arsenal of pitches zeroing in on Tek’s glove.

Petey, you were ours, but choices were made. You are no longer one of us. We will defeat you. Not because we want to, but simply because we must.

This whole this has made me realize something: We need him. Hell, I need him. I'm a mess without him. I miss him so damn much. I miss being with him. I miss being near him. I miss his laugh. I miss - I miss his scent. I miss his musk. When this all gets sorted out, I think Pedro and I should get an apartment together.

Here here! I second that. Give a nice standing ovation when he takes the mound. After that, spray it all over the park and win a walk.
P.S. I won't be picky and I'll take a win anyway we can get it.

Very appropriate Mojo. It has been stated that when Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union forces at Appomattox Court House the Union soldiers saluted him on his way to meet with Ulysses S Grant.
You are the enemy now, Petey, but I certainly hope the Fenway Faithful give you the respect you are so properly due.

The back edge of the cloud shield is in western NE right now, and might make it to the coast by the end of the game. Any clearing will be short-lived, though. This is a tropical airmass with lots of moisture in it and lots of energy available. We might dodge the bullet and get this one in, though!
Tonight's the last night of my class... We are doing student presentations, and I already told everyone that we WILL be finished by 6:45 the latest! I'll catch the first couple innings on radio. Well, off to class.
On another note... The Braves scored in the top of the twelfth. 3-2 Braves, Yankees up now.

Pedro got the applause he deserved last night, but tonight have no mercy. Tonight he is the enemy. And the last person you need to tell that to is him. God knows he will come after our batters just like we watched him do to others for years. I'm excited.
I also have a class at gametime tonight, though. I'm going to actually Tivo the game while I'm at class so I can watch it unfold. First sporting event I will have ever Tivo'd. Well worth the time, though.

Pedro is still going to get a standing ovation tonight at the start of the game. Once the game starts obviously no one will be cheering for him but he still will get a huge ovation pregame.

This is very standard for Pedro in 2006. He occasionally hits 91-92 on fastballs up and in on RHB or up and away to LHB for the K, but usually it's 88-89 on the fastball, and he throws a lot of cutters 84-86 down and away to RHB.
