Jason Johnson is soon to be known as "THE STOPPER" for the way he stops losing streaks.

How's that for positive thinking!!!!!!!

Hopefully because a repeat performence will place Johnson on the bottom of the list for Sox pitchers in VORP this year. Right now he's at -2.6 after one start and Clement is holding onto last place with -4.9. Although Belli still leads the team with -5.9 VORP this year. Hopefully Johnson can get back to replacement level this game.

That's good to hear, because I've been calling him The Stopper for the way he ends winning streaks.

If I had my druthers, my fist would be known as "The Stopper" for the way it stops Joe Magrane from announcing ballgames.

*MOJO* - BOS @ TB - Mad Scientist Day 1

Tonight's starter Jason Johnson has had a troublesome year. After losing his spot in Cleveland's starting rotation, he ended up getting traded to Boston for another shot at earning his paycheck. Those who have been watching him play have been unable to nail down exactly why he has had such a drop in performance levels, but they have also not had the awesome power of science at their fingertips. One merely needs to analyze his starts with the gigawatt processing power of my homemade computer.

IPB Image

Lets see: according to this, his problem is.... he sucks. While this would clearly be an insurmountable obstacle to your average WEEI caller, those of us in the super science biz know that this is a trivial matter. Or at least it is now, thanks to my new invention: The Desuckulator ™

IPB Image

Yep, a few days in this baby and he'll be as good as new. What? Gametime is in only a few hours? Well, I guess he'll have to not suck just enough to pull off the victory. Of course, if this works, we'll give it the real test of tossing Seanez and Tavarez in there, and then it's a one way ticket to fame and fortune for me.

Now dry yourself off and get yourself a win. Nobody likes a soggy pitcher's mound, much less a soggy pitcher.

That computer picture is great. At first glance, I thought it was the Eniac itself!

Cuz Newbies need a little extra kick of mojo to help them out, I have decided to add upon an Artpad.

....home computer.......

Dude, your home PC is actually a nuclear powered sub!

Which is very sweet..........
Johnson's VORP + Corcoron's short run for the 06' 'Aaron Small' award, vs. NUFO's Nuke Sub.......there's no way the Sox can loose now!
mwpeters8182
Corcoran looking like he's got some good control tonight...
rene144
if you're Manny, why on Earth would you ever swing at the first pitch against a guy who can't find the zone? He just bailed him out big time... I'll never understand this kind of stuff...

he hit it hard... it just found a glove...that's baseball. I hear what you are saying with "taking a few" against someone who is struggling with their control......... if it was Alex Gonzalez. But, I want Manny swinging with two men on.

This bastard can't even throw a pitchout right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BostonSox37
Johnson is absolutely brutal.

Next?
rjs2006
This guy sucks.
ivebeentruped
Johnson is pitching better, no matter what the results say.
Bonz
what a diaster this series has been.... Johnson blows....

No, he is still missing his spots and leaving the ball up. We could be in for a long night.
Bonz
I gotta give the Devil Rays Credit... They have a pretty good lineup 1-9. They are just getting healthy now...
rjs2006
Seriously, I would take johnson giving up just one run an inning.

I'm setting the over/under on picking up Jeff Weaver at 24 hours.
Bonz
It could have been a lot worse... 1 run is nothing

Well, compared to his first inning last time, but that's not a real high standard.

yeah, but we should be all over Corcoran as well.
All things considered, he only gave up 1 run... that's better than his other Florida start!
rjs2006
Now THAT was a catcher's interference!!!!
BostonSox37
FWIW, Johnny Damon just left the MFY game in the third inning...
Bonz
1-1 nice work Tek.. I have been giving you sh!t but nice hit

Not a clue...just saw that Crosby PH for him.
Bonz
I guess Johnson like to let the first two reach in every inning...

Tied up at jacobs field
BostonSox37
Sore oblique muscle for Damon...those can be very painful and fairly long term...

Johnson neds a ground ball here.
SuperManny
Johnson doesn't like tied games so this game will not be tied for long.

That didn't look like a catch to me

They showed a half ass replay, theres no way Lowell caught that. I also don't think Lowell did that on purpose like the FSN guys are saying.
BostonSox37
Nice effort by Lowell, if he gets away with that it is a triple play. Too bad the umps caught him.
ivebeentruped
Nice try by Lowell. :/

In situations like that, the ump will almost always call it a catch if it hits the glove...or else people would be doing that all the time.

He dropped it intentionally though, therefore it is an out and the runners are free to advance at their own risk, same as the infield fly rule.

Like I said before I'm watching FSN and they only showed one replay and it was half cutting off Lowell so I didn't get a good angle. But it didn't even look like it went into his glove from my quick view.

NESN showed a couple and slowed it down, he clearly had it squeezed for a second, than realized the situation and dropped it. Good but unfortunate call by the umps.
SuperManny
According to the people over at NYYfans Damon came out with Sore/strained oblique.

BostonSox37
Yep, Johnson still sucks.

Had lugo 1-2 and walked him then left one up to Crawford.

Terrible.
kylexray
I have to say that I think this just might be the end of the Jason Johnson experiment.
rjs2006
If this guy gets another start with the Sox, I will literally puke. Thanks for nothing. My johnson can pitch better.
jeffeltoro
I figure we'll be getting a heaping helping of Tavarez and Seanez before much longer. Jesus, this Johnson is an abortion.
ivebeentruped
Sigh this is amazingly frustrating.

But we shall prevail.
rene144
I really cannot understand how he didn't call a fastball on full count to Lugo, with Crawford and Baldelli coming up... we needed to take a chance.
Well, whatever... he was unlucky with Baldelli's infield single, but we're on our way to our 4th defeat in 6 games, and third in a row, if we keep up like this...
Bonz
I don't understand why this guy was released..... He is soooo good Don't let the door hit you on the way out assclown

How? Did you spot a sniper in the crowd to take out johnson? Or did the D-Rays just sign Chacon?
ivebeentruped
With Corcoran's lack of control, this game could be tied very quickly.
