Pages: 1, 2, 3

Game time: 10:05 pm EDT (7:05 pm for you left coasters)

Scheduled starters: Kyle Snyder (1-1, 10.03) v. Jamie Moyer (5-8, 3.75)

Seattle weather: 11 am PDT (2 pm EDT) observation at SEA: Wind out of the north at 5 mph, visibility 10 miles, sky clear, temperature 84F, DP 57F.

Forecast: The Pacific Northwest is dominated by a high that will be hanging around for most of the weekend. Expect clear skies and a light wind, out of the north now, but coming off the water (W to NW) later in the day. THE NWS has issued a Heat Advisory for the Seattle area from noon today through Sunday, as well as an Air Stagnation Advisory. Temperatures will get into the mid-90's over the weekend, and as the high continues to block movement, the air quality and visibility will decrease. Right now it looks pretty decent out there, though. It's in the mid-80-'s, and the dew point is well within the comfortable range.

Wind out of the north blows in from left toward first. A northwest to north wind blows across from left toward right.

Roof Forecast: OPEN!

Time for the Amazing SnyderMan to appear...

Snyderman, Snyderman
Does whatever a Snyder can
Hurls a gem, anytime
Catches flies just like... flies
Look out!
Here comes the Snyderman

Is he good?
Listen dude
He's got a good attitude
Can he pitch from the stretch?
Better than Gil Meche
Hey, there
There goes the Snyderman

In the chill of night
At the scene with a gun
Like a streak of light
He's the one with earned runs

Snyderman, Snyderman
Friendly neighborhood Snyderman
Wealth and fame
He's ignored
Spot starting is his reward

To him, life is a great big hors d'oeuvre
Whenever there's a hanging curve
You'll find the Snyderman

Manny is 16-47 lifetime, with 9 homers, off Moyer. That's an OPS of 1.405.

Ortiz is 12-34 with 4 homers, with an OPS of 1.391.

Time to crush.

Game is supposed to be on DirecTV channel 95, the first time those of us outside Boston can see NESN HD.

Except...

DirecTV is showing that the game will be on FSNW, which would prompt a blackout of NESN on Channel 623. Does that mean that NESN HD will also be blacked out on Channel 95? If so, I looked forward to nothing. Making us listen to Dave Niehaus rubs salt in the wound.

It's listed on channel 95 as "Upcoming: Red Sox vs Mariners". It's also listed on my Red Sox advance broadcast list.

But I go back to my original question: Will the game being on Fox Sports Northwest black out both the regular broadcast (channel 623) and the HD broadcast (channel 95)?

We'll know in 40 minutes...

That stomach flu must be a doozy - no Mike Lowell in the line-up again.

I'm really hoping that Snyder gets its together tonight, Seattle has been pretty weak offensively as of late, and this would be a perfect spot for him to lower his ERA

Edit: my bad, forgot about the win against Was, didn't think he had a win for the sox yet
future consultant
I also would have preferred to see Willy Mo over Kapler, but it's a trade-off, do you want better defense or offense?

In the meantime, since the $%$%!@#! pre game show isn't on, I'm gonna watch the Deadwood fight over and over and over and over and over again.

I've seen MFYES HD broadcasts their out of town games, so if the HD feed on 95 is NESN, then I don't think it will be blacked out, unless of course, you are in Seattle.
Cudahy
I can't believe they are blacking out the pre game again on Directv. Several posters have gotten messages from NESN that that had been settled.
future consultant
I remember I used to be able to get the NESN pregame show on mlb.tv, it's a shame they don't allow it anymore. It's also a shame that mlb.tv doesn't support realplayer anymore - my mac has a really hard time showing the games with the outdated windows program.
lewah
Hmmm, I wonder if the HD feed will have surround sound too?

"It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it, fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it, and the fear of never winning again corrupts those who are trapped in Kansas City."

The story of Aung San Suu Kyi is one of both persecution and perseverance. Held under various forms of house arrest since 1989, she was kept imprisoned by the Burmese military government, despite gaining a majority of votes in it's first National Election in 1990. She continues her vigil for democracy under house arrest in Burma to this day, with the Burmese government showing no signs of relenting, despite ever present international pressure.

Aung San Suu Kyi knows that if she ever gets her chance, free from the her oppressive environment, she will seize the opportunity and make her goals become real.

Today is your chance, Kyle Snyder. Stabilizing the Boston Red Sox rotation may not be the most important challenge facing the world today. Maybe not even fifth most. But don't tell that to the folks cramming the Whiner Line, they are the ones who need you now. You may not have great power, but even with a good curveball comes great responsibility.

Today's mojo subject was selected by Empyreal to combat alleged excessive white-dudism.

Huh? We get the Seattle feed in HD?

Compromise...we still get the game in HD but have to endure Dave Neihaus for the first half of the game.

I suppose we will have to wait until next year before we actually get to see NESN in HD. Crap.

keeping Ichiro off base is going to be key for Snyder - good to see him start and finish the first inning strong.

Wonder if we will see some vintage Everett tonight?

I'm thinking that Kyle Snyder would be the perfect middle reliever.

First time through the order, nobody can hit him.

Second time, that's a different story.

Worth keeping, from what I see.

I am becoming concerned about Coco and his, you know, lack of getting on base

Snyder would be excellent coming out of the bullpen

Good to see Kapler getting on base, I'm starting to come around with him.

Gonzalez is DA MAN. He just had to learn how to hit AL Pitching. 3 - 0.

Gonzo time! The dude is blasting the ball... we started off well! And it's nice to see them hitting lefties (Rheinecker, Moyer, hopefully Washburn). Good stuff! And the Yanks already lost... let's make good use of it.
future consultant
Now let's hope Snyder can hold it, I wil be impressed if he can make it to the 5th with no damage
rene144
oh, wouldn't it be great to get into their bullpen early in the first game of the series?
Apart from Putz, Sherrill and Soriano, their bullpen sucks. I'd love to see Lowe, Fruto and Woods early in the game.....

Anyway, I'm already looking forward to Hernandez vs. Gabbard... that sounds like we don't have too many chances, but it's going to be interesting to watch us against "the king"...

Tonight we are getting warmed up. Thank God because it's late!

what's no damage for you? Shutout? 1 run? With the lead?

Snyder has been pitching very well in the two starts he's had for us. I wouldn't be too surprised really... I trust him far more than Jason Johnson or even Matt Clement right now.

a homer and an error for Gonzo????

No damage means no runs

I don't think I would want to see Lowe, the guy mowed down 2 Yankees and only allowed 1 hit when they were in NY. He looked pretty strong

Snyder did not pitch very well, his lines were:

5IP 3R
4.2IP 5R

He's been okay but not even close to very good. He hasn't pitched past the 5th yet so he's killing the pen when he pitches. Now for what it took to get him its been more than I expected and I actually really like him as a pitcher and hope he stays on as a long man once we have our regulars back. He has had a good K rate and K/BB rate though which is encouraging.

Tonight might be the game he gets to the seventh or so. It took Lester a few starts to get deep into a game.

Nice DP though

Gonzo is great at DP's. And he also has a great range to his left. It's his range to the right that kills him... except that Lowell sometimes minimizes the damage in that zone.

actually, I wouldn't mind seeing him early into the game. It would mean the SP is out and the bullpen is blown, either way.

Anyway, Snyder is looking great: low pitch count, 1 infield single, 1 "should-be-out" single and one "ordinary" single. Moyer has given up 4 hits, 3 HR's and a double (to Loretta, so it counts as another HR to a normal hitter). Good game so far.

As another of this year's much maligned Red Sox goes deep. Now Loretta needs to hit one.

I know, but I have watched his games, and he looked really good for the most part. In the last game, he really breezed through the first 4 before getting into sudden trouble. He's been good and with his peripherals, things should start getting better soon for him. Despite his ERA, I'm confident with him (unlike Jason Johnson, for instance). And I'm liking his breaking ball... he can throw it for strikes.

This is pure speculation, but was this a regular day off for Lowell -- maybe even just a day off because of matchups -- or could there be another reason?

This was in Buster Olney's blog, which I assume most have read by now, today:

QUOTE
• Heard Thursday that the Red Sox, in their effort to acquire a starting pitcher, talked about trading Mike Lowell to the San Diego Padres but that conversations have faded. I don't know who the pitcher moving from the Padres to the Red Sox would have been. But Boston would've moved Kevin Youkilis from first to third base. Considering how well Lowell has played this year, the pitcher targeted by Boston must've been notable.

If they did have a deal i nthe works it would make sense to sit him out, but I'm probably reading too much into it and it's a regular day off. It doesn't seem like SD would have a pitcher good enough for Lowell that they might be willing to give up.
yazgoesbacklooksupitsgone
I thought Snyder was supposed to be a ground-ball guy. They're hitting some deep fly balls off him.

Lowell sat yesterday out as well. They said it was because of a bad stomach. He might sit tomorrow out as well...

Jake Peavy is starting tonight for SD... having said this, I think that deal is unlikely right now......

I think those were "Youks" not booes but it could have been a combo. I don't think the M's fans are passionate enough to boo.
