Game time: 10:05 pm EDT (7:05 pm PDT)

Scheduled starters: Curt Schilling (12-3, 3.50) v. Jason Windsor (0-0, 1.80)

Oakland Weather: 10 am PDT (1 pm EDT) observation at OAK: Wind out of the west at 8 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 25,000 feet, temperature 73F, DP 61F.

Forecast: HOT! Oakland airport broke a record yesterday with a high of 89F, and it was hotter inland, away from the Bay. The west wind is keeping it about 5-10 degrees cooler in the coastal and bay areas than just 10 miles inland.

The high that's controlling weather in the bay area is weakening slightly, and this will allow a seabreeze to begin cooling this afternoon. That's good news and bad news. The ocean is west out there, and homeplate is on the east end of McAfee stadium. So it will be cooler, but the wind will be blowing straight out at 10-20 mph by late afternoon. The seabreeze will weaken when the sun goes down.

NWS has a heat advisory for the bay area through tonight.

There is likely to be patchy fog in the area later tonight.

I hope I can see some of it on MLB.TV when I get home. I am going to see the Rays and Angels tonight.

The heat is pretty bad here but 7:05 games in Oakland are not that bad no matter what. Got tickets 6 rows from the field right behind 1st base for tonight's game. My usual cheap bleacher tickets for tomorrow's getaway game...now that will be a scorcher.

Jason Windsor is a name reminiscent of majestic flight. Beware the giant thunderbird that is Jason Windsor, swooping down with it's 20 foot wingspan, capable of lifting deer, people, and even light hitting ball clubs up off the ground. The A's will need every bit of it's help when going up against Curt Schilling, and the thunderbird can... wait, what?

I'm being told that there is no proof the thunderbird ever existed.

Hmm... well, good luck then. Because I'll tell you something, I'm 92.3% certain these guys exist:

And they like their birds good and tangible.

I wonder how much that knee is bothering him. Hopefully he just thought Ortiz was not going to third...
MDKing
Why take home run cuts when you don't have home run power?
bobgeorge
Manny being Manny! Orlando Cepeda '73 would have made it to second.

Sac fly is better than GIDP

And at least Trot doesn't swing like a girl like Tek right there

I'll definitely take the sac fly, but it looked like he might strike out.
johungde
Yes, the sac fly is nice.

But once again Trot was off balance on his swing (and behind the two fastballs earlier in the count). He still looks awful.
MTSUDaff
Horrible play by Tek. Let's pump fake a guy who isn't even looking towards you.
johungde
F*** you, Varitek. Get your head out of your ass.

I know, what a terrible throw, too.

Extra Innings is showing the friggin' Philly game's extra innings...what happenned?
GreenMountainSoxFan
At least that little fiasco only ended up costing Schilling 2 pitches (and a run).
johungde
What a drag on the team Varitek has been for most of the year. He made the NY Post's Most Un-Valuable list, and deservedly so.

Here, he cost Schilling a run.

It should be on another channel then, on mine it was switched from game 1 to game 4

Check out the MLB channels without game listings. That is where I found it.

Youkilis threw home instead of getting the 2nd out at first base. Had the runner going back to third by a long way, but Varitek pump-faked and then pulled Lowell off the bag with the throw. Everybody safe.

Just in time to watch Varitek "flail" at a ball somewhere west of St Louis.

Man! Was that a sight for sore eyes by Nixon.
JMDurron
Time for a power surge from Tek, too!

In other words, a single to RF would be great right now.

Once again Tek looked totally overmatched by the fastball.

Good job by the Sox getting into Oakland's bullpen so early.

GreenMountainSoxFan
Freakin' Payton. He is irritating no matter what uniform he is wearing. Good catch though.
johungde
Too bad. AGonz hit that one hard.

johungde
Coming out of shock here. Wow. Nixon hit a HR. First extra base hit of the month (I think) and first homer since early June. Wow.

Good inning by Curt.

Beckett should study the way Schilling disposed of Bradley. Fastballs to set up the offspeed pitch, roller to SS.

Of course, Curt is a master.
SuperManny
Great hit and run call by Tito there. Without it thats a DP
johungde
Sox end the Oakland bullpen's scoreless streak.
MrNewEngland
I don't get Tek sometimes. He'll look completely lost out there, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him crush the ball in his next at bat. Like this weekend against the Mariners.
Bergs
Another monster AB by Varitek. Honestly, he should be in the 9-hole right now.
