You dont think he'll be back in the OF(at least a corner OF spot) next year?

sometimes a team just falls into good luck. giambi gets injured and damon is hurting so torre decides he's playing melky in CF, come hell or high water. damon just had a game against the angels where he failed to track down two hard-hit balls that he normally catches. everyone could see he was hurting out there. the giambi business opened the door for johnny to DH.

yes, i think he could spell matsui in left. hideki's 33 and his legs will need a rest. johnny came up as a LF in KC so he's familiar with the position and his arm doesn't kill a team as much in LF.

melky's been playing the hell out of CF. he lacks coco's speed but gets to almost everything and his arm is a great equalizer. stopping runners from going from first to third on routine hits to CF is a huge plus for the yankees. damon could never do that in new york unless the ball was drilled at him on one hop.

Alright, Ill say what ive been thinking... and it scares the crap out of me, but put these two things together: 1) Johnny Damon has been moved out of CF, perhaps permanently and been told to workout at 1B and "at the corners"; and 2) There are a great number of quality CFers hitting the free agent next year.

I think the Yanks will be going hard for either Andruw Jones or Ichiro.

Jones? Ugh. You can have him. I don't necessarily want Ichiro either, but if it's a short term deal, which he probably won't accept, it wouldn't be the worst move in the world.

I hope Ichiro or Jones goes to the Yankees. For the money/length it's going to cost them it’s not worth it. Besides the fact neither may not be that good. I just hope after they land one of the two they will go after Carlos Zambrano next.

Yes, Jones or Ichiro will be overpaid... but if youre the Yankees, who cares?

Johnny Damon would be a surprisingly good fit in Right or Left Field. His spaghetti arm can be hid in LF, and RF in Yankee Stadium is tiny, so that would mitigate it as well. Either Ichiro or Andruw would be major boosts to the offense. Cashman's plan isnt to necessarily develop from within as much as it is to not give away thier cheap young talent. Melky isnt a great solution long term as an everyday CFer, IMHO and there will be a glut of CFers on the market next year, a number of which would fit well in the Bronx.

Besides, and this is the part that I like, the Yanks will have money to spend but there wont be Starting Pitchers to get... so they might as well let Abreu walk(or excericize the option and trade him like with Sheff - or arb) and sign a premiere CFer.

CJ Henry is garbage... it was completely a salary dump.

You nailed that one alskor. In a strange twist, the Phillies release him per his request (and because he could not hit his weight and has since moved to the OF)....then the Yankees inked him again.
