Game time: 8:05 pm EDT (7:05 pm CDT)
Scheduled starters: Curt Schilling (14-4, 3.78) v. Runelvys Hernandez (2-7, 8.54)
KC weather: Noon CDT (1 pm EDT) observation at MCI: Wind out of the east at 8 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 11,000 feet and 15,000 feet, broken clouds at 25,000 feet, temperature 91F, DP 67F
Forecast: Not as hot as yesterday, but still hot! There's a lot of cloud cover from convective debris from storms in the area, and that's cut down on heating in the area.
There's a chance of thundershowers this afternoon and evening, but there will not be widespread coverage by rain. If there's a storm, it will not last very long, and they should be able to play the game.
The wind is going to come around from the southwest later this afternoon at less than 10 mph. That's blowing out.

I think they key tonite is to make the royals look like the royals, nont like the 27 yankees. Even bigger, lets not squander opps here boys. I'd like to take this opportunity to say how excited I will be, as well as all of you should be if the Sox sweep the MFY in that 5 game series. I don't want to jinx it, but it may make/break the season.

President Tito's pregame clubhouse speech mojo (Independance Day style):
'Good morning. In less than an hour, ball players from the US will join others from around the world. And you will be launching a game in what will be called the largest morale boosting win for our fans in the history of Red Sox Nation....err, this month to date anway. 'Red Sox Nation', that phrase should have new meaning to all of us. We cannot be consumed by our petty differences anymore. Perhaps it is fate that today is the 10th of August. This day in 2003, Bronson Arroyo pitched a 9 inning perfect game for the Pawtucket Red Sox (it's true, look it up). While Arroyo is no longer with us, we will once again be pitching for our freedom!!! But not for freedom from tyrrany or oppression or persecution. We're fighting for our right to live, to exist in this pennant race! And should we win the day, the 10th of August will no longer be known as Arroyo's own personal holiday, but as the day when Red Sox Nation stood up and declared in one voice that we will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our steak in the 2006 pennant race!!'

*MOJO* - BOS @ KC - Tough Love Day 1 What a sorry bunch of losers you guys are. Things better start shaping up, or else you aren't going to like the consequences. For the pitchers, no one is safe. Tonight better turn around this string of poor performances from you guys, or else you better get used to seeing this:

And, as for you hitters? Don't think you guys are safe either. The whole lot of you could be producing better. Yes you too, David.

Maybe you should learn to rock a little harder, perhaps like someone who really knows how to win.

I think his two MVP awards show he's the player you should be emulating. Awards displayed in a case gilded with gold and encrusted with rare jewels, I might add.

<<<This day in 2003, Bronson Arroyo pitched a 9 inning perfect game for the Pawtucket Red Sox >>>
It would be fitting then if Wily Mo did something fantasmagorical like hitting 3 or 4 homers and throwing out a runner at the plate.

Dylan Thomas agrees:
DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Schilling really needs to come out and pitch a complete game, or the Sox need to get up by like 8 runs or something...anything to keep the bullpen where it needs to be...IN THE BULLPEN!
The Sox really need to win this game and sweep the O's...they need some sort of momentum heading into the Tigers and Yankees...or else it'll be season over after next week.

I'm not going to watch the begining of the game tonight. Instead I'm going to go to the gym and watch the start of the Indy preseason football game. I need a day off after the last 2 nights. Goodspeed to those in the game thread tonight. I have complete faith in Schilling tonight to right the ship though.
2 games back after a win tonight and a loss for the Yankees.

Inspirational poetry mojo....
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
~ Mary Elizabeth Frye
Inspired Tonight
I feel inspired tonight
by flickering stars
and dusty moonlight,
By a phantom friend,
the gentle breeze;
and trees that bend.
I feel inspired tonight
by One who is
beyond my sight;
By thoughts of you,
a lover's dream,
a dream come true.
I feel inspired tonight
by angels' dust:
my soul takes flight;
By a spoken word,
a melody
my heart has heard.
I feel inspired tonight
by the black sea
shimmering white,
By midnight mist;
the face I've touched,
the lips I've kissed.
I've felt inspired tonight.
Somehow I know
that all is right;
Now I can rest.
I've been inspired
by all life's best.
Not really a poem, but a one of the greats...
"Nothing in the world can take place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."

6 pm CDT (7 pm EDT) weather at Kansas City International Airport -
The wind is out of the south, which is blowing out toward left/left center, and there's light rain. The temperature is 81F, with the dew point at 71F, so although it's not as hot as it was last night, it's very muggy.
From the radar, it looks like the rain will be around for another hour or so, but the heavy rain and convective activity is all south of Kansas City. There could be a rain delay, but they could decide to play through the light rain.

What makes me the most worried is that the last time Schilling was pitching in KC, they ran him out after only 5 innings having given up 6 runs. I hope he remembers this and realizes that a momentum change is desperately needed tonight
If we can't defeat Runelvys Hernandez (with an ERA of 14.21 over his past 3 starts), and if Schill can't pitch a strong game against KC . . .
