Game time: 1:15 pm
Scheduled Starters: Randy Johnson (13-9, 4.92) v. Josh Beckett (13-7, 5.02)
The Game will be on FOX.
Boston weather: 10 am observation at BOS: Wind out of teh southwest at 12 mph, visibility 10 miles, broken clouds at 13,000 and 25,000 feet, temperature 77F, DP 61F
Forecast: The high clouds we're seeing are from a low off to our west, moving toward eastern NE. It should be dry throughout the game, although there's a slight chance of showers. The question around this system is whether it has enough energy to reach the coastal area, and how far south it will penetrate.
It looks like it will be a rain-free afternoon, with temperatures in the 80's and increasing humidity. The winds will be south to southwest at around 10 mph. A south wind blows from right toward left; a southwest wind blows out toward left. Mr. Beckett, be forwarned!

So who is available out of the pen today? My guess is just Papelbon and Van Buren.
Snyder threw 39 pitches in game 1.
MDC threw 28 pitches in game 1.
Tavarez threw 32 pitches in game 2.
Hansen threw 21 pitches in game 2.
Timlin threw 32 pitches in game 2.
Foulke threw 42 pitches in game 2.
MDC and Hansen worked the least, so they may be available for an inning each, max. Beckett needs to go at least seven strong today.

Rain is in the forecast for tomorrow for the entire day. So, Tito should empty the pen today when Beckett does his usual nosedive. Also, even if there is no rain, Schill is on the hill tomorrow, so the pen should get some rest anyway.

Eric Wilbur is reporting that Peter Gammons is at today's game. Best wishes for a complete recovery to Peter.
Gammons on handGreat news to report from the Red Sox clubhouse: Peter Gammons is on hand, looking fit, in his return to Fenway Park. Gammons suffered a brain aneurysm in late June and has been recovering over the past two months.

hmmm. Do I turn off the game audio and put Sterling on or do I listen to Mc****up and Joe Cluck. And let me just say that listening to Susan Waldman makes me want to put my nuts in a blender, but McCarver seriously makes me dumber when I listen to him. Hmmm, no balls or no brains. I think I'll be listening to McCarver.

The Yankees DFA's Ponson after last night's game...
That ends thatIn news you probably could have predicted, the Yankees designated pitcher Sidney Ponson for assignment earlier today. In his swan song for New York, Ponson gave up nine hits and seven runs in three innings last night.
He was 0-1 with a 10.47 ERA in five games for the Yankees.

Nah, if you live in Yankee territory, you get Sterling/Waldman or nothing. ESPNRadio plays something else.

Actually they are on here in the west coast since the Giants and Dodgers play at night. In all honestly, I'd would rather them not be on.....I spent like 5 hours combined watching both games yesterday, will watch tomorrow and Monday.....I was hoping I'd be forced to go outside and see the outside world for a change.......particularly the way they are playing.

Okay, Josh. You owe your infield big time. Five strikes out of 18 pitches is NOT pitching, Josh. Go back to the dugout and grow a pair before you come back out.
