Kyle Snyder (3-2, 6.23) will get the ball today for his sixth start with us this year. He's 2-2 with a 5.61 ERA in his first five outings with the club, lasting past the fifth inning just once. Man it could be worse.

How?

Edit: Wait! I don't want to know!
RSN Diaspora
To me, Kyle Snyder is just like giving up. I would love to have to eat these words.

I really think this game is the equivalent of driving by a vicious motorcycle accident, it's sad and is unpleasant to look at.

Snyder will not last past the 5th inning and Baek, who hasn't had a major league win since 2004, will become a cy young candidate for a day. And I too hope I will have to eat these words
rominer
What I want is to win. What I really want is to win, while the Yankees and White Sox lose. (Yeah, it's good to worry about the Twins, but better to worry about the team standing between us and them)

What I really, really want, though, is for us to win, while the Yankees and White Sox lose, while last night's 3rd base ump has the plate for today's game and takes a foul ball off the nuts.

Is that too much to ask?

Now Jon Lester is gone back to Boston to deal with a sore back! Kayson Gabbard is going to get his start. What has happened to this team?

Seems as though we're still paying the price for having an injury-free season in '03.

You could show these lineups to someone who hasn't seen the standings in a while and ask "which team has 60 wins and which has 71?" and the one with Papi would probably get more of the votes for 60 wins......

Covelli reached base vs. a RHP? Damn.

Who are we, the Angels?

What did i miss? Why no Manny?

Snyder has just gotten awful luck when he's pitched.

He's being Manny...

QUOTE
The hits just keep on coming for the Red Sox, who announced today that rookie left-hander Jon Lester has been scratched from tomorrow’ start with a bad back.

And that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Prior to today’s series finale against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field, Sox skipper Terry Francona announced that Lester will return to Boston to undergo further testing. Lester last pitched on Wednesday in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels but was nearly scratched because of back problems.

Francona, meanwhile, clearly seems to be getting frustrated with a club that literally seems to be falling apart. Manny Ramirez (knee) is out of the lineup again today after playing on Saturday night. The Sox also are without Wily Mo Pena (wrist) and Doug Mirabelli (ankle), explaining why bench coach Brad Mills posted a lineup card that looked like it was intended for a spring training game.

When asked if Ramirez could serve as the designated hitter, Francona bristled.

“He said he couldn’t play. What the (expletive) do you want me to do?'’ snarled the manager. “If a guy says he can’t play, he can’t (expletive) play. …Go ask him. He said he can’t (expletive) play.'’

Ramirez, of course, does not speak with reporters.

Ugh.

Thanks Manny sad.gif You should be out there.

This team is horrible and do they not care at all?
scotian1
Well this is the ballgame right here in this inning. Can they get out of this mess?
Lou Duffys Cliff
Coco you suck!

Maybe if he breaks correctly on that ball he is in position and make a decent throw.
scotian1
Coco has the arm of a youth league player. How could this team been so high on him as a CF. Makes Damon look like Willie Mays.
czar
In Coco's defense, his arm has been far weaker than it has in previous seasons, and just yesterday he admitted to shoulder soreness to the point he was using cutoff men on throws he had not been using them on in his Cleveland years.

That could have been a whole lot worse too.

Haha, first off, that's a ton of "ifs."

Secondly, only in Boston could a player elicit this type of reaction on a SAC FLY in the SECOND INNING of a SCORELESS ballgame after a FIELDING ERROR.

Do you have some inside knowledge of the condition of his knee?

What is amazing to me is that with the second highest payroll in the majors this team has absolutely no depth what so ever. I do not blame the players, they are what they are.

Yeah, and it's pretty disheartening for a run to score with ease on a shallow fly to center regardless of the inning, score or previous play.

Look... no team in baseball has enough depth to cover all the losses the Sox have had. That's just a fact. Teams don't have .310 hitting 25 HR hitters just stashed away on benches and in AAA...
scotian1
Boy who would have thought the way Dave Henderson is going on this weekend about how awful a place Boston is to play and how their defense is good for Fenway only that he was once one of our heroes.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan

These announcers going on about how Clemens is going to be available this week, we sure could have used him a few weeks ago. Is it too late to make that move now?

After he moved on to bigger success with the A's he always seemed to make a point of identifying himself as an Athletic. I guess he didn't like being shipped out for Randy Kutcher (!) to make room for Burks in CF...what a bad trade THAT was for the Sox. Sounds like a diminished case of McCarveritis?

Say, I'm surprised no one has mentioned that Baek has not allowed any hits thus far. That's right, I said he's working on a NO HITTER. *cough*

I keep hearing "Beck" but, alas, no mullets or moustaches are in view. This "Baek" (pronounced "Beck") is pitching a no-hitter, apparently.

I thought it was "bay-ek," like when Chris Berman does his home run call with a supposed Boston accent during games at Fenway. "Bay-ek, bay-ek, bay-ek. It's ovah the mahwstah."

God I hate that guy.

Playing yesterday has little to do with playing today. By that "logic" no player would ever miss a game.

Oh, that "logic"? This team is falling apart and has to start winning. This is an occasion where Manny has to suck it up and play. He's the best player on the team and is very much needed. How can you not see that? Or do you like Youks in left and batting clean-up?

Ohhhh, grand slam. The collapse continues. Lots of rest upcoming for your boy, I'm sure. enraged.gif

"How can you not see that?" "do you like Youks in left and batting clean-up?"
More brilliant "logic".

I'm aware that he is the best player on the team and very much needed. That's separate from his ability to play.

I'd like for him, Varitek, Trot, Wake, Foulke, Delcarmen and Pena (have I forgotten anybody?) all to be healthy. They aren't. Unlike you, I'm not going to sit here and whine and call them pussies.

(I assume you're going to somehow blame Manny for the GS, too? laugh.gif )

I actually blame Timlin for that grand slam
