I am predicting a one hit shutout by Beckett tonight. Why? How do I know but when a premonition hits you don't ask why. You read it here first. Sox win 1-0 on a Carlos Pena dinger.

Francona expects Josh Beckett to make his start tonight, despite the cut on his right middle finger. ``He says he's OK," Francona said. ``I'm kind of in the mood to believe him."

Yes, but its a good news/bad news thing.
Good news is his ankle is feeling better.
Bad News, coco slammed his bad finger in a newspaper vending box this morning so Mirabelli is penciled to make his first ever start (at any level) in centerfield.
Also to booster the offense, the FO has purchased a vintage GI Joe action figure with kung fu grip on EBay. Look for him to be the DH tonight.

Will the on-deck batter have to manipulate his hands so he can hold a bat?
I was sky-high with hopes of Beckett pitching two good games in a row. Until I was reminded of the cut he suffered in his previous start. But all he has to do is hold then line for 5 innings until Mike Burns comes in for the final four!

Manny, Wily Mo headed home, too
By David Lefort, Boston.com Staff
Less than a day after sending David Ortiz home for tests, the Red Sox today ordered ailing outfielders Manny Ramirez and Wily Mo Pena to return to Boston as well for further testing.
Ramirez has appeared in just one of Boston’s last five games due to soreness in his right knee. Pena has missed the last three games due to soreness in his left wrist.
Both players are expected to be further examined on Wednesday.

Hey, nothing else has worked. Why not?
I say put Timlin in left field - he ought to be pretty good at judging deep flies by now.
Here's my lineup:
C Lopez (he can't hit, so what the hell, let's just bat him leadoff and get it over with)
2B Youkilis
CF Pedroia
SS Hinske
3B Kapler (remember, in '04 he took ground balls there in spring training...anyhow, his defense can't be worse there than it has been in RF lately)
DH Delcarmen
RF Tavarez
1B Cora
LF Timlin
P Beckett
first out of the bullpen: Coco Crisp. Can you imagine trying to go from Beckett's 97mph fastball to trying to hit the Coco Crisp eephus? Oakland will be in a slump for a month.

I'm so bummed out right now....I'm just trying not to remind myself of what it is like without the Sox in the playoffs.
I'll still watch though, because I realize I love baseball that much. I hope that whoever ends up playing just tries to have fun and to not get hurt.
At least they know now that there is no pressure, because we don't expect much. I do expect them to still TRY to win, no matter what the standings are or who is playing.
I'm not asking the team to win 20 in a row. I'm just asking for one win tonight. One win for Big Papi! Who knows what he is thinking right now, and the least the Sox can do is at least give him something good to watch on TV.
So Just Win.
This always cheers me up:

Yeah this is kinda weird, watching Sox games and knowing that they're pretty much done. We as a fan base have been pretty spoiled since '03.
Which doesn't make watching the team turn into a MASH unit any less frustrating, but still.
