Game time: 7:05 pm
Scheduled starters: Roy Halladay (16-4, 3.12) v. The Mystery Pitcher...
For the record, at 3 pm the Sox website has David Wells (2-3, 4.98) as the scheduled starter for the Sox.
At 4:20 pm, the Sox website was changed to show Julian Tavarez (2-4, 4.71) as the starting pitcher for tonight's game.
Boston weather: 3 pm observation at KBOS: Wind variable at 7 mph, visibility 10 miles, broken clouds at 25,000 feet, temperature 72F, DP 48F
Forecast: It will be a cool evening, in the mid to upper 60s, with a light wind out of the north to northeast. We've had a layer of cirrus clouds over the area all day and it likely won't clear out tonight.
We'll keep a watch on TS Ernesto, which is off the South Carolina coast. The moisture from Ernesto will move up the coast in the next three days. A strong high over SE Canada may keep the heaviest rain west of eastern NE, but it is too early to determine the track of the tropical system.
EDIT: Add Tavarez as staring pitcher

I'm heading to the Fens in a half hour (long ride, and lots of beer needed) Can't wait to see TBA. I've heard a lot about this kid and I htink he's a hell of a pitcher. Go TBA!

TBA is actually just a code.
The "T" stands for "Mr. T"
"BA" is of course BA Baracus, Mr. T's character on the A-Team.
They just haven't outright said, "Mr. T will be on the mound for the Red Sox tonight," because then Toronto would probably just forfeit, and the Sox would lose out on all the concessions revenue.

I heard the same report on WBZ, but there's no confirmation.
This is from Nick Cafardo:
As of about 3 p.m., the Padres and Dodgers were still formulating final offers for David Wells.

Thanks, Boomer. We'll always have, uh. . .oh, forget it. Enjoy your last box of Dunkin Donuts. And send Jon Lester good vibes.
TS Ernesto is supposed to hit my area tonight. I would love for something positive to happen to this team before the 8 inches of predicted rain make my neighborhood look like Lake Huron. Here's hoping the power doesn't go out.

Shorty,
Hopefully it won't be to bad. I just got a bit of light rain, but it is strengthening today back over open water.
Good bye Wells and I appreciate your efforts this month. Despite the final results it could be the best thing you have done for the Sox since coming here.

Wells scratched
By Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff
David Wells has been scratched from tonight’s start against the Blue Jays at Fenway Park, replaced by reliever Julian Tavarez.
However, according to Terry Francona, Wells has not yet been traded.

In a related story, Jack Daniels's stock rallied before the market closed today to a price of $678 per share.

Is that the one with the annoying commercial with the "Leave It To Beaver" look and the horrible voice actors? "Gee, mister. What's a telephone?" or whatever?
Because if that's 1-800-MYSEATS, then I hope their stock drops to zero.

Dylan's "Death is Not the End" is in my head for some reason...
"When you're sad and when you're lonely and you haven't got a friend
Just remember that death is not the end
And all that you've held sacred, falls down and does not mend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end
When you're standing at the crossroads that you cannot comprehend
Just remember that death is not the end
And all your dreams have vanished and you don't know what's up the bend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end
When the storm clouds gather 'round you, and heavy rains descend
Just remember that death is not the end
And there's no one there to comfort you, with a helpin' hand to lend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end
Oh, the tree of life is growing
Where the spirit never dies
And the bright light of salvation shines
In dark and empty skies
When the cities are on fire with the burning flesh of men
Just remember that death is not the end
And you search in vain to find just one law abiding citizen
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end"

The discussion in the Wells thread suggests that maybe DiNardo will actually make this start. He can't be added to the roster until Wells is traded. Tavarez is just a ringer to make sure the Blue Jays all go out and have a few beers at dinner...

Why is everyone so upset about Tavarez? DiNardo sucks, and he sucks hard against Toronto especially. At least Tavarez pitches well once in a blue moon and isn't coming off a never-ending DL trip. Plus there's always the exciting possibility that he'll actually start a riot.
I prefer him to DiNardo.

I read in the Boston Globe that some seats that used to sell for 150 are now down to 45. If anyone wants to go to Fenway and sit in some seats for much less while watching a team full of third string players lose...it's a pretty good deal just for the experience of being so close for not very much.
