Game time: 1:05 pm
Scheduled starters: A.J. Burnett (6-6, 4.53) v. Kevin Jarvis (0-1, 11.91)
NOTE: The game will be on NESN. FOX's control over this slot stops after Sept. 1. It's called "football season".
Boston weather: 9:15 am special observation at BOS: Wind out of the east at 20 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 1,500 feet, with an overcast layer at 12,000 feet, temperature 64F, DP 58F
Forecast: We've got a complex situation today. Eastern NE is still under the influence of a high over the Canadian Maritimes. The barometric pressure at BOS at 9:15 am was 30.35 inHg. The air in the lower atmosphere is dry, as noted by DPs under 60F throughout the region. Those conditions are keeping the rain away from eastern NE.
Don't be fooled by the current radar. It is not raining. There's some light rain aloft, and it is being reflected on the radar, but it is not making it to the ground. Before it can rain, the air has to become saturated, and that's going to take a while.
At 9 am, there was some light rain reported at CEF (Westover/Chicopee), but no rain at Hartford or Bridgeport.
The rain will likely move into the Boston area sometime after 3 to 4 pm, but there could be some light sprinkles before then. The heavy rain will not move into the area until later this evening.
They will get this game in, and the Rooters will, for the most part, stay reasonably dry.
The wind may be a factor. It's blowing straight in, but at 20 mph, and that may increase by mid-afternoon. There ought to be some adventures in the outfield today on high fly balls.
Edit: It's going to be cool, probably not out of the mid-60's, and with that east wind, well, it will feel like April out there.

Hmmmm.....
Kevin Jarvis's delivery reminds me of Foulke's.
So does the ERA.
So does the result of this inning.
Sigh.

Just tuned in any update on Papelbon?
Zaun is a free agent at the end of the year. Can he catch the knuckleball?

Came from Arizona. Allowed 18 runs in 11 innings there for almost a 12.00 era.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3026Actually believe it or not by allowing 2 runs in 2 innings has lowered his ERA.

What is the problem with this guy, either he cannot pitch in on righties, or Javy can't call a game, maybe a little of both

Good inning there for Jarvis, his slider seems to be working well. Looking at his stats his best season was in 2001 when he went 11-12 with a 4.79 ERA with San Diego.

Good to witness David Murphy's first major league hit.
Only to see it erased by our leadoff hitter.

I'm a pretty patient fan. I think the Red Sox can still make the playoffs. But, for the love of God, Coco Crisp is more ****ing frustrating than Mark Bellhorn.
He had better do A LOT of BP and defensive work in the off-season and come on strong next year, or else the rest of his time in Boston will be absolute hell, as short as it may be.

i'll get flack for this, but I wish Manny would just suck it up and go up to bat once this game, he could change the complexion of this game with one of his swings

Hope all the Rooters who made the gathering today at Fenway are havig a good time. One of these days I'd like to make my way from Nova Scotia to attend on of these. It seems that I already have made Boston plans before I know the date of the outings.

Keep in mind that this injury ended Mark McGuire's career......I don't think they're taking chances with any injuries at this point. Schilling getting skipped Monday is evidence of that......

Coco getting some boos after his ground out in the 8th.
On the positive side of things, DiNardo having a good outing.
Whoops one batter too soon to make that comment about DiNardo.

i think there was a bit more to McGwire's retirement than simply patellar tendinits, but I see your point. It's simply wishful thinking on my part

With the hawk sitting top of the Pesky pole, Europeans believe it is a symbol of good luck. Hopefully that is true and can be applied to some of the issues facing the team.

I was a fool to believe the sox might have a 3 games small winning streak going on!, freaking AJ went complete game, how many times our sox pitchers has done that for this season? I think just once. blah and once again the yanks are losing and we just can't gain ground at all.

SFFM38, I believe the Red Sox threw this in when they traded Wells.
