Let's see - we were two games in front on Memorial Day, 4 games up by the 4th of July, and now 9 games back on Labor Day. We've lost 13 games in the standings in 2 months. Wow.
ivebeentruped
Oh my God... the Red Sox have something resembling a batting order today... they may actually win a game.

Oh wait. JULIAN TAVAREZ IS STARTING.

Mark this post. If the Red Sox lose today it will not be because of Julian Tavarez.
ivebeentruped
That was the biggest scoring chance that the Sox have had in a month. Or so it feels anyway.

This is the team I remember rooting for earlier this season.

Gonzo is going back into his shell again hitting-wise, which earlier in the season prompted that thread. Hitting a baseball: the hardest thing in sports to do consistently well.

Tavarez is doing very well tonight - he's doing what some of our "aces" have been unable to do as of late
ivebeentruped
Wow, Julian's pitching well.

Wow, Julian's pitching well.

It may be for his job (although he is signed through 2007, isn't he?).

C'mon Gonzo, hit this wimp.
Guess not.

Talking to myself here. Y'all have given up? Not that I'd blame anyone. Get an excellent pitching performance, go into the tank hitting.

So is there any evidence that Freddy would be a good starter going forward, at least for the rest of the season? Is there any harm in trying it?
ivebeentruped
At this rate, Tavarez will throw a complete game.

You're kidding, right? He's the new ace. blink.gif
PTBNL
The human horror show is pitching fantastic.

Must come up with new nickname.
MrNewEngland
Very impressed with Tavarez tonight.

Let's get some runs & give him the W he deserves.
johungde
Youks putting together a good AB here.

I haven't had a chance to watch a Sox game in a while now. Seems like this game thread is mighty quiet.

Hinske with the rally killing DP. Sigh.
ivebeentruped
Welcome back Trot.
TreeRol
Trot Nixon!

Let me just reiterate my love for baseball. I wish I could watch this game, but the radio broadcast is quite good.

Just seeing him on TV, Hinske looks thick or something. I mean, his face is...thick.

Oh oh!

I need a new drug...one that won't make me feel three feet thick.
- Huey Lewis.
johungde
Yeah, I have mixed feelings about seeing thses guys back. It's great to see them again, but I'd like to see the young guys get playing time the rest of the way: WMP against RHP, Pedroia instead of Loretta.

But what the hell! Youks is back hitting leadoff. That's great to see.
ivebeentruped
I am officially against Tavarez pitching this inning with the heart of the lineup up.

That was just a matter of time.

A hot starting pitcher is almost always considered to be a good bet to keep in there. Prove me right, Jooles!

That was quick.
ivebeentruped
Let's see if Julian can keep it together.
johungde
I feel like a jinx. avarez pitches 6 shut out innings, then I turn on the game and Wham! Thome HR.
ivebeentruped
Ok that's enough for Tavarez.

That was a great outing from Julian. No matter how you slice it.
PTBNL
I am glad they are cheering for him. He looked good.

Let's finish what Tavarez has started.
johungde
Yeah, great effort by Tavarez. In fact, unbelievable. One of the Sox best starts of the year.

Nice to hear the crowd cheering him. He's had a rough year.
JustinShaype
He pitched his creepy, pock-marked guts out.

Fifth starter for next year? Just throwin it out there....

As Ron Burgundy says......."just take it right on back"

Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Great job, Krapler.

Can't say Covelli wouldn't have gotten to that either, though.
ivebeentruped
Bad luck.

Then again, Nixon's hit was good luck.
johungde
Too bad, cheap hit. That seems to be the story of Boston's season.

Kapler in the lineup????

He should have dived for that one, he was within 20 feet.

Now Tavarez knows how the starters feel when the BP blows it (though MDC was victimized by the blooper).
ivebeentruped
Now does this offense have anything in it?
johungde
I guess Tito has to play it like Boston is still in the WC hunt (since they are, mathematically).

But Kapler? I never wanted him on the team in the first place, and certainly don't want to see him now.

Good point. Trot's was a real cheapie.

Tek looks like he hasn't missed a beat despite being out a month.

Kapler... what a joke.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Way to make him work. Then again, there's not much you can expect with Krapler and Auto-Out.
johungde
Pathetic.

Tito should face reality.

Against RHP he should play Murphy and Carlos Pena. And WMP and Pedroia should be in the lineup against both RHP and LHP. Let Nixon, Lowell and Loretta sit.

For the next few games, you're going to see the "veteran" lineup, since they're all coming back. They're going to try to win a few games before they give up.
johungde
On the bright side, MDC looks good.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Why the hell would Ozzie PH for Dye? Tito-esque stupidity.

Yeah, I know you're right. It's just like, what's the point? But they have to do it. And I will be glad to see Ortiz back.

But at least bury Kapler!

I believe he was a defensive replacement. Still, it's just the 8th inning. Doesn't make much sense.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Give Tito a lefty, and he'll use him like a LOOGY. Hooray!
ivebeentruped
That was Myers-v.-Anderson-esque domination.
johungde
Lopez makes the LHH look sick. Nice.

Mike Burns in the BP. I don't think that "Burns" is a good name for a reliever to have.

Who the hell is he anyway? Another of Theo's pickups?
future consultant
You think Tito has done some foolish things this season, start watching White Sox games or take a gander @ soxtalk - the man really doesn't know what to do with himself when it comes to his pitching staff

i hate AJ so much - even if he played for the Sox, I would still detest him a great deal

johungde
Ouch!! for Youks.

Nice job, MacDougal. Let the leadoff hitter on.
ivebeentruped
I wonder if Ozzie will believe it hit him when Youks has x-rays.

Talk about PIECE OF SHIT luck.

Only the Sox can manage to GIDP because they start the runner.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Oddly, WMP has had a lot of trouble w/ LHP this year. I can't say I feel too good about this, but at least it's better than Hinske vs. LHP.
