Yankees fans are chanting "Derek Jeter" as Ortiz is batting. That's real creative....
RedSoxAnni
Another squander...
Farmer Ted
How many dingers has Beckett given up now?

Edit: You may not want to answer that just yet.
scotian1
To say I am discouraged would be an understatement. My question is how are they ever going to fix this in the off season. There are just so may problems ranging from health issues to complete failures to perform.
SFFM38
Ortiz keeps hitting off Wang, he owns that WANG!
scotian1
Boy does our team miss Ramirez in the 4th spot.

Am I the only one that noticed when Beckett actually threw curveballs in the third inning, he resembled an actual, effective pitcher...

Well, the Sox just took the lead, so it must be time for me to jump back into a game thread. A whole lot of bad things have happened since I lost my internet connection in Moscow back at the end of June. Now, finally, I'm up and running in Vienna. The Sox stop the losing now. Ain't nobody clinched nothing yet. Go get 'em, boys!

Good to see you back on board, you are right since you left the team has certainly nosedived. I admire your optimism though.
Iwish I could watch all of this game but I have a function I must attend in Halifax and have to leave in a 1/2 hour.
Flaming Mo
Ahh I love what these guys are doing out there. They could have easily packed in after trailing 0-2 but they fought back. Thank god, now all people who actually wanted Wang in the Cy Young conversation are shut up. How about 8 hits and 3 runs in 4 innings today?!?

Beckett hopefully can keep his act together, ahhh walked Giambi again. Nice to see David Murphy contributing.

GO RED SOX!!!!
SoxAroundTheWorld
Josh didn't get the memo: the losing STOPS now!

No, you're not. I started watching in the 2nd inning, and Beckett threw nothing but fastballs until finally on 0-2 he threw two curves in the dirt to Matsui.

He later got Damon to hit into the DP on the curve, as well as punching out Jeter and getting Arod off balance for a fastball K.

Yeah, Matsui misses almost the whole year, then comes back with 6 hits in 11 AB. Nixon misses over a month and comes back with 1 hit in 21 AB.

Sigh.

What freakin' choice do we have other than optimism?!?! Never willingly lose, not against the MFY, not against anybody. I love baseball too much to give up. Sure it's not likely, but folks said the same thing after Game 3 of 2004 ALCS. Miracles can and do happen. Like Beckett getting out of this inning without giving the lead back. (Crosses fingers...)

too be fair Matsui might just be a little bit better than Nixon.

Nice to get Cabrera. Now let's keep Damon in the on-deck circle, 'Kay?

Attaboy, Josh. Maybe there's hope for him yet. I'm just "watching" on gamecast, which is good for pitch location, but says nothing about pitch type. Did he throw anything other than fastballs that inning?

Lots of curves, and according to the announcers 1 splitter.

He definitely had the hitters off balance. In the 3rd and 4th innings no one was able to tee off on him.

And the pendulum on the Arroyo for Pena trade swings back. Actually, it's stuck at about 90 degrees. Pena with his big wild swings simply just sucks.

Jeter steals 3rd. Sox totally asleep. That's happened all season long.

I would tell him to watch an hour of Manny film a day and copy his swing. If he doesn't want to do that, or otherwise work on his swing somehow every day, get rid of him. Another thing, does he ever hit good pitchers?
johungde
Josh looks like he's running out of gas. His fastball is down to about 94 now.

He's pitched okay today, but he just doesn't go deep into games.

I noyice, too, how much energy he wastes with his high fastball. No one ever swings at it. Just another 97 MPH pitch wasted.
SoxAroundTheWorld
DM gets us started. Nice to see him back, too.
johungde
Nice stroke by Lowell. That's it for Wang.

Omigod, please don't tell me Tito will PH Kapler...

I hate players with names like "Wang." Everything you say is a dirty joke.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Boy, Dougie's season stats don't look impressive...
johungde
Francona's got to get the team under control. Asleep on Jeter's steal, now Hinske stops running.

Have a little pride, boys.
Cambridge
Hinske showed little or no effort to run down the line earlier in the game. Now he simply stops on a ball back to the mound. Get that man the hell off the field and out of uniform. Either he's hurt, or he just doesn't care.
SoxAroundTheWorld
DM dies on the vine at 2nd. Boo!

He's not hurt. He acted like a baby because the pitcher came up with his grounder. Poor unfortunate Eric!

Francona should bench him for that.

Great, Josh. A leadoff walk.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Oh goodie - a leadoff walk. With Beckett over 100 pitches. This has danger written all over it...

Ha! Followed by a double play ball!!! I'll say it again: the losing STOPS now!
johungde
No, Tito didn't bench Hinske.

Nice DP by the Sox.

Okay, Josh gave them his 6 innings.

An encouraging outing considering what has gone before.

But he wastes a lot of gas.

Amazing, actually, how much wasted effort there is with him. Consistently high pitch counts, low innings. A clear example of someone who needs some harnessing. I had hoped that Schill would fill that role.

Well, if it is true that WMP can't hit good pitchers, but kills mediocre ones - here's when we see a dinger.
johungde
Something I've noticed this year is that every time there's a pitch in the dirt the Ump puts a new ball into play. But after a hit or ground out, they let the pitcher use the same ball.

SFFM38
This time WMP doesnt K's or GIDP he draws a WALK!!

The glass is half empty: we wasted a bases loaded, one out opportunity.
The glass is half full: we scored a run without getting a hit.

The losing STOPS now!!!
johungde
Real smart hitting by Hinske. Against a pitcher having trouble throwing strikes he swings at the first 2 pitches out of the strike zone.

I'm fast losing any liking for Hinske.
Flaming Mo
QUALITY OUTING BY BECKETT!!!! AWESOME!!!!
johungde
Carlos Pena in.

Why oh why hasn't Francona been playing him?
