Royal Rooters > THE COOLER > ROYAL ROOTERS ARCHIVES > 2006 REGULAR SEASON GAME THREADS
RedSoxAnni
Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Matt Garza (1-5, 5.50) v. Tim Wakefield (7-9, 4.19)

Boston weather: 2 pm observation at BOS: Wind out of the southwest at 15 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 3,600 feet, scattered clouds at 4,500 feet, temperature 82F, DP 63F

Forecast: A line of showers ahead of a cold front will move through the area tonight, so there's a chance of rain through the evening. The rain was just approaching Berkshire county at 2:45 pm, and should be in the Boston area by around 5-6 pm. There's a potential for some heavy downpours, but right now the radar coverage is showing more light rain, with some areas of embedded showers. There's a good chance that we'll see some rain tonight, but it most likely won't be steady all evening, so they'll probably be able to play the game.

The wind will be southwest to south, at around 12-15 mph. That's blowing out to left/across from right to left.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Rain, rain go away. We need to win tonight. And we don't need no more stinkin' doubleheaders!

Remember: Nobody's clinched nothing yet. And the losing has STOPPED. Just win.

If the Yankees go 1-11 and the Red Sox go 11-1, we're the Eastern Division Champions.

OK, the Yanks won't go 1-11; they'll win at least 2. 12-0, biatches.

Ahhhhh, so good to see Timmy back.

Hey...no more hitting streak for Jetes. Yankees are in the midst of a losing streak. We started that losing streak.

Sports are all about momentum. The Yankees lost theirs.

I'd like to think that, even if they manage to avoid the 2-10 finish and go on somehow to win the division, they will have lost all steam as the postseason begins.

I'd like to think that golf courses will be replete with Yankees before the leaves have all turned.

Whatever happens, I have to think: F**k New York.

Given that, it would seem to be in our best interests to play the kids for the next 3 games and see what happens.......the Twins getting 3 more wins only puts them in better position to move past the MFY's for top seed in the AL (and home field prior to the WS).

If you want to give the yankees an easy pass to the title, go ahead and advocate for the sox throwing the games. The Yankees will have the most trouble in a 5 game set against the twins vs a 7 gamer. Think about it, Santana pitches 2 times in either series, so you are better off thinking Santana wins 2 and the twins only need one, whereas in a 7 gamer, Santana wins 2, they need to find 2 more wins from a list of horrible pitchers (right now).

Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.

I'm not advocating throwing anything. We should have been playing the kids for the past month, ever since the FO realized maybe we wouldn't be gunning for a title and dished Wells off to SD.

The right thing to do right now is play Pedroia, Hinske, Pena, Pena, Murphy, MDC, Hansen, and Dinardo as much as possible and see what we have for next year......if that happens to make the games more or less difficult for the Twins, then so be it.

FWIW, the Twins have drawn the Yankees a lot in the division series of the past 3-4 years, with Santana pitching, and haven't been able to do a darned thing.

The last time the Twins tried to use Santana on 3 days rest against the yankees, he only got through 6 innings and his pen blew the lead for him. It will happen again if they try to use him on 3 days rest, hence he needs to pitch games 1 and 5. With no Liriano and no Radke, the Twins dont have much of a shot in a 7 game set when 5 of those games will be pitched by guys other than Santana, especially when they need to win 2 of them. In a 5 game set, assuming Santana wins game 1, the twins only need one more win from games 2-4 to set themselves up for a game 5 with Santana. You try for the 5 game set if you are the twins. They wont put up much of a fight in a 7 gamer.

The Yankees are good for something. They're keeping Boston out of third place (for now).

Well then...11-1 it is. I guess we can kiss that AL East title goodbye. weep.gif
