Game time: 7 pm

Scheduled starters: Julian Tavarez (3-4, 4.89) v. Ted Lilly (14-12, 4.44)

Toronto weather: 3 pm observation at CYYZ: Wind out of the east southeast at 9 mph, visibility 15 miles, few clouds at 2,800 feet, overcast layer at 17,000 feet, temperature 61F, DP 50F.

Forecast: There's a chance of showers this evening as a warm front moves from west to east. It'll be in the upper 50's, with the wind out of the south to southeast at less than 10 mph. If the roof is open, that would be blowing out, but wind is not much of a factor because of the design of the Rogers Center.

Roof Forecast: There's a good chance that they'll start the game with the roof closed.

Toronto, eh? Battle for second place. Part of me says "let them have it," if for no other reason than to stop the talk about the Sox always finishing second to the MFY.

Fortunately, that is only a small, insignificant part of me, which I usually keep tied up in the wine cellar, only allowing it out when there is a full moon and the Danube is actually blue.

That's not the case tonight. So let's win. Mr. Ugly will give us five passable innings tonight, and Papi will go deep again. I'd make more predictions about individual performances, but I'm never sure anymore who is in the line up. Such is September baseball for also rans. I don't like it, but let's not let ourselves get pushed around. Beat the crap out of them!

Did anyone not see that coming after the dropped ball?

Crisp is out again? With the same finger problem? The sox must have the absolute worst medical staff in baseball.

Awesome sac fly. Not sure I've ever seen that before. Nice play by Wily.

I guess you're right. The entire Red Sox organization sucks.

How dare they not deliver the post season appearance that is our birthright? mad.gif

My birthright was that the Sox won the WS during my life.

Since that has happened, my birth was just right.

Right about now some globe intern is probabably going through the records to find the story from years ago where Nomar was overheard complaining about the medical staff, saying "They're killing us!"

Hmmm.... ya know what? if Julian Taverez keeps up like this, I just MIGHT willing to consider him as a 5th starter for 2007 season, a big MIGHT! and put wakey in BP instead of SP, just a thought! damn I am already excited about "2007" and this season is not over yet!
LetsGoCrespo

I don't know that I'm quite ready to take that leap.

In fact, I know I'm not, because I want another starter added to this team in the offseason so that we don't have to have this 5th starter debate.

But I'll tell you one thing. He is one f**king entertaining motherf**ker on the mound. If he's back in the pen next year, I hope he gets a warmer reception than he did this year.

(Which is to say I sure as hell hope he pitches next year more like he has as a starter than like he did out of the pen this year.)

That game was one Pedroia misplay of a bad hop from being a shutout, too.
Empyreal
Tavarez was so happy, he didn't even mind being interviewed by Cervasio.

Yeah, that's exactly what I said. Nice use of hyperbole.

Maybe you haven't been following the Sox too closely the past two seasons, but there is a disturbing trend of players coming back from injury before they are fully healed, to the detriment of the team. And also playing longer than they should with an injury, when they should be on the DL. I don't think that it's too big of a leap to question the competence of the training and medical staff.
