A neat article on this two-week course held in Arizona. Not just any schmuck can pay a fee to participate, however. You have to be sponsored by an MLB club. But once you complete the course, you have a good chance to become a scout.
QUOTE
The school is conducted annually in Phoenix, and every other year in the Dominican Republic. This fall's class in Arizona is the largest to date, with 56 students participating. The school was started 18 years ago by former MLB Scouting Bureau Director and current Bureau consultant Don Pries.

About 650 students have graduated from the program over the years, and about 75 percent of the current scouts have attended the scout school.

I remember a big story in the local paper out here about this last year. A really cool thing we have down here, that in some ways is cooler than Spring Training is the Fall League. The Fall League are teams AA and AAA players playing on teams against eachother. There are normaly 4 or 5 organizations on each team. You get to overhear some interesting info at these things. Not alot of people go to the games so you can sit and rub elbows with Scouts and GM's. Sommetimes you can hear about possible deals or little tidbits about players.
