So the major league game(which will be on audio)will only have a few Major league Sox while most of them will play against a college team without audio.
Who's Cash?
RedSoxAnni
Kevin Cash, back-up, back-up catcher...

I guess the major leaguers didn't want to get up at 6 am to make the trip to Dunedin!

So they're in Ft. Myers, playing a seven-inning game, and they'll be done in time for the 4 pm early bird special.

1-0 Toronto after one inning...

I missed the scoring, as I just turned it on.

Gabbard -- one run, one hit, but more importantly, 2 walks. that's not the way to impress anyone, especially if you have a history of command problems. With his reputation working against him he might have just blown his long-shot at the roster right there. Although, he WAS pitching against their A squad, Rios, Overbay, Wells, Glaus and Zaun, when he gave up that run...

Not nearly a crisp pitching game. The only pitcher not to surrender a walk was Big Edgar, and he gave up 2 hits.

So I'd say no one in particular impressed among the pitchers.

Offensively, it looks like the WIlly Mo Pena show is well underway. 1-2 in the spring opener, and now 2-3 against the Jays.

If he's campaigning to upset Crisp as Boston's starting center fielder he's well begun.

2 MORE errors for Spann. I think something might be medically wrong with the kid. He's usually a better fielder than THAT. Lot of chances to turn it around but at this rate he might stay in AA. At 23 that wouldn't be a disaster for his prospects to become a major leaguer, but I'm sure that's not what he wants to do..

How many IP from Gabbard? I like Big Ed and as long as he didn't give up a walk or a HR I am fine. He will be very efficient in the 6th-7th inning role one day.

WMP is not going to upset Crisp. WMP could have a line of .300/.350/.500 and still be sent to the bench.

Gabbard pitched2 innings. The run seems to have come from a leadoff double by Alexis Rios, driven in by Vernon Wells. Giving up one of those has happened to pitchers a lot better than Gabbard.

It's the 2 walks that concern me. Can't tell much from 2 innings but for a guy whose major hindrance is the walks, the first thing you think of is that maybe he still doesn't get it, or can't get any better than he is. At 24 that's kind of sad.

That said, Gabbard was no worse than anyone out there other than Big Edgar, so maybe it's not so terrible.

Thing is, if someone gets hurt and we have a double header, we'll probably see this guy. Based on what people showed us last year I'd say that Gabbard is probably our second callup, unless you want to use Snyder, Abe Alvarez or Runelvys Hernandez instead.

Its spring training! LOL He has been in camp for what 1-2 weeks? Give him a break.

I give Gabbard a lot of credit for working his butt off in rookie development camp and going to spring training way early. He's orking very hard and I think he's got a shot at the roster.

I like Gabbard. I got into a lot of trouble back at Soxprospects for defending him to the point of absurdity last year -- it was one of the reasons I can't post there anymore.

He's no ace, and I wouldn't substitute any of the starting 5 for himbut I think he's tougher than his injury history says he is, and I think he can hang into games as long as he's got good D behind him and give a team a chance to win. He pitched above his level last year and got through it OK, and he's proven willing to experiment on the mound with changing his armslot and trying to adjust his delibery. For a guy with underwhelming stuff that's a good trait to have. He also gets GB's and DP's at key times, or did in his callup. I honestly think he's just about a half step away from finding some kind of niche for himself and I want to be there to see him do it because I like what little I've seen from him so far.

Goess I'm just being a curmudgeonly Red Sox fan who likes a guy and gets down on him because I want to see him better all the time.

Shit. We're doomed this season. Mark us down for another third place finish.

Anyone else see the pictures from this game? Players were donning the new ST jerseys in beautiful blue form. I think they look awesome:

Very reminiscent of the older blue ones (which I also liked):
