Red Sox Fan2
nice inning by the Sox.
Imgran
Wakefield looks like he's got the K ball working the way he wants to. Got into a bit of trouble in the 2nd but he's put up 3 zero's
Cambridge
How about those running Red Sox. Cora and Lugo taking the extra base and forcing a bad throw to score a run.

Great catch!!

As much as I loved Trupe... I am already loving Geffner.

How does Papelbon look?
Red Sox Fan2
Did you see that catch Bobby Scales made?

That isn't Geffner; it's Dave O'Brien today, and he is much better than Geffner...

Hmm... I knew that.

And if that doesn't tell us the state of soccer in the United States, than I don't know what does.
Imgran
Wow, Donnelly... Pee-yew!

That didn't help his chances of becoming a closer!

Wake was good, Paps was fantastic, Donnelly couln't find the strike zone with a map and compass, and Okaji gave up a HR against a mediocre RHH.
Red Sox Fan2
Nice to see Okajima get lit up in his first televised game.

I wish Francona let Donnelly try to work his way out of the jam.
Locklandworth
Paps just said he wants to see the season shorter, in response to a question about if he thinks the spring training is too long.

Sorry Paps, not going to happen, it's too long for you and too short for me.

He looked great today though.

Has Okajima faced any lefties so far? I mean, that's going to be his only role, if he does in fact have a role...

Not sure if he's faced a lefty yet.

I think they are trying him out against righties to see if he can be served as more than just a LOOGY.

He tried that 2 runs ago. When a guy jus doesn't have it you have to pull him. It was a good decision. It just didn't work.

Francona takes some grief for not pulling pitchers until it's too late -- give him some credit when he gets it right.

Yes, and he did face 1 lefty -- I think he gave up a double. Pretty good against the RHH's other than the HR tho.

But it's ST. Pull a guy when he looks like he's struggling during the regular season but in ST let him work his way out, unless he looks too inept.
FenwayPride
I liked the look of that Paps line.

Oh man, we might have a really special 1-2-3-4 this year.
Imgran
If Lopez was trying to prove he's more than a LOOGY, that inning will help him.

And so did Bobby Scales.

I was watching that inning. He was doing something wrong and settling himself into some kind of bad habit. Every time Cash talked to him he threw some strikes and then lost his command again.

If a guy 's settling himself into a bad habit it might make sense to pull him and let him get some work in with the pitching coach to get out of it.
Locklandworth
Ed Rogers with the walk off grand slam!!!!

Cool.
Imgran
Spring training or no, Ed Rogers will remember THAT one for awhile.

Walk off grand slam. The scrubs get it done against the Royals' ex-closer.

I don't know why everyone keeps assuming Okajima is a loogy. He's a good pitcher.

Who needs Lugo when we have the mighty Ed Rogers?

Highest velocities I saw on the night

Wake: 76
Paps: 93
Donnelly: 90
Okaji: 86
Lopez: 88

Any idea what he meant by that? Like, I hope he isn't forecasting running out of gas in September.

Imgran
For the record he didn't want the season shorter, he wanted fewer games ( which might just mean more days off during the same-length season), and I don't know how serious he was.

Me too. I think we can count on Paps to take care of himself but I don't know if that means he can go the distance and make all his starts this year.

Oh well. For now it's just time to admire that shiny 0.00 spring ERA of his. smile.gif
