Can't wait to see Matz, I haven't had the chance to see him until now.
ivebeentruped
Oh my lord he made that man look silly...
aklaft
Now that was an inning.

Oh, man, this is going to be death to my studying. I didn't anticipate the crappy computer at work being able to load MLB.tv, but it's up and running.

Matsuzaka looking really good so far. But it is the Orioles.
mish1231
The audio is absolutley horrible today.
Lou Duffys Cliff
Damn, I wish MLBtv was running a freebie

How much NASCAR garbage are we going to have to deal with this year? I'm all for anything that gets the Sox more money, but I hate car racing and I don't want to hear about it.
MFLetou
Yeah I really can't hear a thing any of them are saying. C'mon NESN.
RedSoxAnni
Can anyone hear what Don and Jerry are saying? They are drowned out by the crowd noise. I can see John Henry's mouth oving, but I can't hear what he is saying. If I turn up the volume, the crowd noise gets louder and still drowns eveything out. I can hear what the umpire is saying better than Jerry and Don.

Is this a NESN issue or a Comcast issue?

I'm on MLB.TV's NESN feed and I can hear them just fine.
mish1231
Yeah, Don't know. I'm watching on NESN with comcast.
MFLetou
Im watching on NESN with Dish Network. Same thing as Anni--crowd is totally drowning them out.

2bshorty
Is it just me or does Farrell look a little like Belichick?
RedSoxAnni
I called NESN, but, of course, there's no one there. You'd think someone was monitoring the broadcast! Maybe all they've got to do is turn down the crowd mike a couple notches.
czar
Mediocre outing for Dice-K. Location was off today, and I would like to see him dial the fastball up a bit more sometimes (Lot of people were talking about how he was consistently in the 93-95 range when we signed him but today he was 89-92), but I'll chalk it up to ST.

Tavarez hasn't given up a hit. Too bad he's given up like 5 baserunners, though.

Matz experimenting on the Orioles?

QUOTE

"This being a team in our same division that we're going to face many, many times, I thought I'd take the opportunity to experiment a little bit and see where they're going to hit the ball, see where they wouldn't hit the ball and that kind of thing," said Matsuzaka. "So the third and fourth [innings], I was definitely experimenting a little bit more."

QUOTE

Key lesson learned?

"Yes, in the third and fourth innings, I was definitely throwing high up in the zone," Matsuzaka said. "Not every pitch was a high fastball or a high slider, but judging from what I experienced, throwing high fastballs and high sliders can tend to be a little bit dangerous."

Among his many other attributes, Matsuzaka is a quick study.

"Right now, it's just a total feel," said Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek. "Like with a team like Baltimore, [we were] trying not to show them too much, but not trying to show them too little, either. We talked about some of his reads from the mound, they're the same reads from the mound that I had behind the plate, and that's a good thing, because that reminds me of my days with [Pedro Martinez]."

Matsuzaka knows about division rivals, so I would have been shocked if he showed them his best stuff now when it doesn't count.

Another Pedro comparison. Love 'em. biggrin.gif

Tough game. I hope Matsuzaka was really just "testing" the batters like he said.
