Should be an interesting game, I'm a HUGE David Wright fan... so watching him a long with the Sox should be fun.
Imgran
Whatever I predict, the opposite seems to happen.

We're gonna get smooshed and the Mets are going to score about 20 runs.
NJSoxFan
games on SNY for those in the NJ/NY area ...

Nice pitching by Beckett vs Delgado there ... fell behind 3-1 and came back to K him
ability
SNY on MLB.tv too, I can't stand their announcers.
NJSoxFan
well that was a comedy of errors

and so was that
Sweet sox
Gameday anyone?
vicocala
Are you guys sick of the "great" Lugo yet?

I knew he was a disaster waiting to happen. What you have seen in spring training is what I saw all the time in St. Pete. The Sox are going to regret his signing for a while.

I'm not watching the game but I can tell you ST means nothing. I'm assuming he committed an error and that's where your comment stemmed from. If that's the case than so what? I'll swallow 16-17 errors for superior range. He's speedy and a much better hitter than O-Cab and A-Gon.
Sweet sox
Thanks gerky...how'd i find it for future ref?

2-0 down Cora is having a stinker?
vicocala
Uh, he didn't get to a ball up the middle with his superior range and yes he had another wild throw. It isn't about spring training if you read my whole post. He is what he is. A sucky fielder. On cue, he does get the Sox second hit. A shot thru the middle.
NJSoxFan
and a SB ...
vicocala
And steals second...

Even so I expect 25-30 errors from him.

I've watched a couple of games this ST and I've got to tell you that Lugo has been making some fantastic plays that barely get beaten out by speedy players. He may occasionally make a fielding error but his problems stem from erratic throws.

Plus him and Youks make an admirable 1-2 combo at the top of the order.
vicocala
Josh has looked good despite the defense behind him. He had Delgado tied up in knots. Lots of curves and change ups that inning.

Just change the date and the opponent in the URL:

For example, in the URL above, "Boston at Mets" is "bosmlb_nynmlb" ...

For home games, it is reversed: "Florida at Boston" is "flomlb_bosmlb" ...

The only annoying thing is that abbreviations can be a little unusual, as in "nyn" instead of "NYM."
NJSoxFan
OPerez looks pretty damn good for the Mets
vicocala
Yes, he has. Very good movement and change of pace on his pitches.
Imgran
Beckett is what he is. A power pitcher. Lots of strikeouts, lots of long balls. It's part of the same package.

That said it's still looking like a pretty good package.

Also beore you assume that errors charged to the infielder are terrible, remember -- Ortiz is playing first. Sometimes when you've got a bad first baseman the fielders try too hard to be perfect.
vicocala
Nah, Lugo sucks. He had a great defensive first baseman with Tampa. He has speed and he is a peppy guy, but he is no defensive player at short. That is why some teams wanted him for second.

Honestly, do you have anything better to do? We get it - you're not high on his defense.

Sorry to say, but you spent a majority of last season ripping on Loretta for his defense, and that got a little tiresome, too.

But, I'm sure in your view that was warranted.

I did repeat it a fair amount, but it was always in response to someone calling him "steady" or something of that sort. Vic just loves to rip on Lugo because he's seen him in Tampa, and he just knows he'll be a disaster in Boston.

Sorry to have made an argument of it.

Anyway, since I can't watch what is going on, someone mind filling me in?

Oliver has absolutely owned the Sox through 5. no walks, no runs 9 k's, 5 hits

Beckett's not that bad either. 4 IP, 2 ER, 6K, 6h 0BB, 1 HR.

Lopez pitched well for us for an inning, Feliciano did well for them for an inning.

It's 3-0 Mets , the extra (unearned) run was from one of 2 errors by Cora.

In short, my attempt at reverse psychology wholly backfired.

The offense has looked like shit thus far. I hope it's just a mixture of a slow start and mechanics being worked on. If the offense doesn't contribute this year (yes, I know it's early) does the blame get put on the manager, the new hitting coach, or the players themselves?
Imgran
Let's wait for them to fall apart before we start figuring out where to assign the blame.
Imgran
On another perhaps more pertinent interest, did anyone see enough of this game to get a verdict on Beckett's use of the curve and change?
