Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Anthony Lerew (0-1, 6.52) v. Devern Hansack (0-0, 13.50)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather:

1 pm obseravation at KBOS: Wind out of the northeast at 18 mph with gusts to 25 mph, visibility 5 miles in rain, fog, and mist, few clouds at 700 feet, 1,100 overcast, temperature 44F, DP 41F

Forecast:

There's a stationary front stalled off the coast, and a low off the NC coast. As that low moves up the coast, it will pull in tropical moisture as if on a conveyor belt right over eastern and southern NE. An upper level low over PA isd moving SE and the circulation around that low will help push the ocean low up the coast.

The bottom line is rain, and a lot of it. When it stops depends on how fast the low moves up the coast and then moves away from the area. It looks like 2-4 inches of rain, with the bulk of it falling between late this afternoon and 2-4 pm tomorrow.

It will be raining at game time tonight. The winds will be onshore. Right now winds are gusting to over 50 mph on Nantucket, and gusty winds could affect the coastal area through the next 24 hours.

It will be in the 40s all day.

I would not hedge my bets on baseball tonight. I'll go for one game tomorrow, possibly in the evening, and maybe two on Sunday.

The game has been rained out.

Game rained out

Tonight's game against the Braves has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader, at 1 p.m. and 7:35 p.m. Tonight's tickets should be good for tomorrow night's game.

It's raining pretty hard here at Fenway, plus the forecasts for later on look even worse.

Thats too bad but at least we have a nice double header to look foward to tomorrow.

Here's the Sox Press Release. At least they called this one before everyone drove out to the ballpark.

Tonight's Red Sox-Braves game postponed due to rain

BOSTON -- Tonight's Red Sox-Braves game at Fenway Park has been postponed due to wet grounds and inclement weather.
The forecast provided by the Red Sox weather service, Meteorlogix calls for continued moderate to heavy rain throughout the afternoon and evening.

Friday's game has been rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, May 19, beginning at 7:35 p.m. Tickets for tonight's game will be good for admission to Saturday night's game between the Red Sox and Braves.

The opener of the day-night doubleheader will be played at the regularly scheduled time of 1:05 p.m.

The forecast for Saturday calls for showers. The club will provide further updates as necessary.

This is the Red Sox' fourth postponement of the season, all at Fenway Park.

I'm not too confident about playing baseball at 1 pm tomorrow.... There's too much moisture out there and the system is moving slowly. Unless it speeds up, it does not look good for baseball tomorrow afternoon.

If that were to happen I would hope Francona would let his bench fill out both rosters. I don't want the Sox getting exhausted before Monday night's game against Pettitte.

Game1:
C- Varitek
1B- Hinske
2B- Cora
SS- Lugo
3B- Lowell
RF- WMP
CF- Coco
LF- Manny
DH- Ortiz

Game2:
C- Maribelle
1B- Hinske
2B- Pedroia
SS- Cora
3B- Youk
RF- Drew
CF- Coco
LF- WMP
DH- Ortiz

I get what you're saying but we're not exactly talking basketball here WRT games wearing out players. Funny though that "American League games", which always seem to be longer by half an hour or more than NL games, can catch up with you in doubleheaders, even if you're mostly just standing out in the field. Another thing is that one of the reasons people use for the Red Sox monumental collapse in 1978 was Zimmer never giving his regulars a day off. I think Tito is in tune with giving the regulars rest though.
