Game time: 7:35 pm

Scheduled starters: John Smoltz (5-2, 3.19) v. Devern Hansack (0-0, 13.50)

Boston weather:

4 pm observation at KBOS: wind calm, visibility 2.5 miles in light drizzle, fog, mist; 500 feet broken, 800 feet overcast; temperature 51F, DP 50F

Forecast: More of the same. The low is drifting east oh-so-slowly, and dragging a layer of moisture with it. There's a good chance of light drizzle through the evening.

It'll be in the upper 40's at game time, with a light wind that will slowly come around from the south, which will be blowing from right toward left.

Bring a raincoat.
Caspir
This will be a tough one. We need to get Smoltz's pitch count up so Cox has to use his pen again. Hopefully Hansack can keep us in it for five or six innings.
RedSoxAnni
Smoltz has a dislocated pinky on his right hand. That could affect his pitches. Wait and see...

good point...the braves decided to throw 202 pitches in that first game.....which sucks alone nevermind having to go through a double header.....if we find a way to keep this going tonight this could really hurt them tomorrow as well. And I think they used 6 pitchers in that first game as well

Dougie is gonna go DEEP tonight, BOOK IT!!!! ( hes due for one ) thumbsup.gif
Caspir
I'm glad Manny is playing in this game. If it as close, I have a feeling that he would have sat, but getting Pena in there for him allowed him to rest a bit. I like the line up we're trotting out there... except Crisp batting second, while Pena hits eighth, ugh.
SFFM38
Ahh, I forgot to add something!! Mr.Crisp we would very happy if you can get your 1st HR of the season because you are the only RS player that has not yet got HR's thanks!
Ralpho316
It would be nice if the Mets could hold this

only bright side, maybe he gets some ABs w/Lugo on and some good pitches to hit with Ortiz coming up

Is Boston weather holding up? (looks nasty in NY -- they should just call that game smile.gif )
RedSoxAnni
The weather hasn't changed much since the 4 pm observation.

6 pm at KBOS: wind out of the north at 5 mph; visibility 1.75 miles in light drizzle, fog, mist; few clouds at 200 feet, 700 feet broken, 1,400 feet overcast; temperature 53F, DP 51 F.

Expect the same all evening, with a chance of a shower.

Caspir
Damnit Coco, so close to a home run.
fiftyeight
Is Coco turning the corner??
Bergs
I'm pretty psyched to have Hansack go an inning without giving up a run. Let's hope it's tonight.

edit: Nice job stretching Smoltz out, dipshits.
rominer
Wily Mo swinging at the first pitch there was way too predictable.

To quote Blur, "Woohoo!"

Foul ball bounces off a bat held by Varitek in dugout, hits WilyMo in head, then apparantly hits Hansack in mouth. Nothing serious.
MFLetou
this sucks.

Huh. Weird. I'm on EI w/Comcast. Seems to be better now.

btw, how weird would it be if both us and the MFY lost pitchers to broken fingers on the same day?

Edit: This might be a good time for a rain-delay/cancellation.
fiftyeight
Is it too hard to ask for the second straight double header sweep in 3 days? whistle.gif
rominer
Great game.

LETS GO KASON GABBARD!
samba guy
I think its safe to say Pineiro will never close a game in his life.

alright I think it's safe to say the great Pienero experiment should end..this guy really does suck...
bring up someone else who can throw strikes and not meatballs ! enraged.gif
fiftyeight
Why didn't Dice-K pitch the night game and Hansack the afternoon? Just wondering.
mBiferi24
Yeah Edgar... that field really sucked huh?

Well, I guess it doesn't suck anymore.
SFFM38
DFA Pineiro and then start searching for an quality RHP by doing scouting work in Japan! thumbsup.gif

EDIT: oh btw I hope Josh will get back on track ASAP! We need you more then ever! hope he will resume pitching before June 1st!
fiftyeight
So this is what Atlanta fans felt like in game 1. At least it's only one loss.
SFFM38
This game flatly out SUCKS! our bullpen may not be as good as we may think ? except paps, okajima! this is one of worst games I ever seen so far this year.. Braves are outhitting RS 18 to 3 , BLEECH!

EDIT: NESN shouldn't bother airing this one for "Sox in 2" I mean who would want to watch this crap again ??
