Game time: 2:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Tim Hudson (5-1, 1.77) v. Kason Gabbard (NR)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather:

11 am observation at KBOS: Wind out of the south at 3 mph; visibility 3 miles in light rain, fog, mist; 900 feet broken, 1,600 feet overcast; tempeartuer 56F, DP 54F

Forecast:

The upper level low is slowly moving east, but the counterclockwise circulation will keep clouds in eastern NE through the afternoon. There's a band of showers in central NE now, with the heaviest rain to the north, in NH. The circulation around the low will move the rain to the south and southeast through the day. There may be some sun later on, but it won't last long, because the heating will cause more clouds to develop seeing there's so much moisture available.

The low will weaken slowly, and high pressure will move into the area and clear this mess out, but not this afternoon.

They'll play this game, but there will be drizzle and possibly intermittent showers.

The wind is blowing in from right now, but will be west, then northwest later, which is blowing out.

It might get to 60F this afternoon, and then, again, it might not.

I've been calling for Gabbard to replace Julian as the #5 starter. I hope all goes well today.

1 pm observation at KBOS:

wind out of the west at 15 mph; visibility 10 miles in light rain; 1,500 feet broken, 2,400 feet broken, 3,000 feet overcast; temperature 60F, DP 54F.

The problem right now is a batch of rain backing in from the northwest, swirling around the low. It looks like we could get some heavier rain in the next hour.

Standby...
RedSoxAnni
There will be a rain delay...

No start time announced yet.

They should be able to play this game, just not right now...

TBS reported 2:35, but Chip Caray called that "optimistic."
RedSoxAnni
The heaviest rain is just approaching Boston now; I'd give it close to an hour.
Seabass
Saved by the Bell during the rain delay is splendid. Except when it's a Tori episode.

bubba63
Soooooo............. how is it going? Any word?
RedSoxAnni
The tarp is coming off!

Projected start time: 4:30 pm

The rain extends from north central NH through Boston and out to the Cape, and is sliding toward the southwest ever so slowly. There's no rain west of Boston; the rain is coming from the north.

There may be some leftover showers through the evening; right now there's some convective activity in SW VT, and that area will move to the SE, but may run out of energy by the time it gets to the coast.

bubba63
Thank you I have no life. Go Sawx!

This game better get started soon because I'm running out of these:

edit: oh, 4:30....thanks Anni.
Gives me plenty of time for a packie run.

Are you YASS?

New projected start time - 4:35 pm.

There are a couple more patches of rain out there, but it looks like they should get the game in.
Red Sox Fan2
So far so good.

gave up the walk instead of getting the K on a perfect pitch. Also looked like Chipper didn't get a piece of the ball but that's just me.
GreenMountainSoxFan
Squeeze much, ump? Hudson better have that same zone.
macd23
Where did that last ball miss? Man this ump is tough....
scotian1
Without the help of the umpire a good inning by Kason.
Red Sox Fan2
Great inning by Gabbard, didn't let the ump's calls faze him.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Let's not become Yankee fans...
Red Sox Fan2
Hmmm, probably should have sat Hudson in my fantasy today. Oh well.
scotian1
Thought Youkilis hesitated too long.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Tek!
mish1231
Suck it Hudson
Jack Hayden
Nice piece of hitting from Tek
scotian1
Way to clear the bases oh captain my captain!
GreenMountainSoxFan
I have decided not to be worried about Varitek in bases-loaded situations for a while.
Lesbian BoyFriend
And Hinske brings Tek home

4-0 good guys
Red Sox Fan2
Every single time I doubt V-Tek with the bases juiced. Every single time I am wrong.

Pushing 11 p.m. here, with work looming tomorrow. What to do, what to do. Certainly like what I've seen so far. Go Sawx!

Are we sure that's not Jon Lester out there on the mound? Sweet inning for whoever that young leftie is pitching for us! I may have to stay up...
macd23
Nasty stuff from Gabbard there...
TreeRol
Alright, I'm ****ing tired of Crisp bunting. If there's no confidence to have him swing away against a guy we're beating up on, why is he even in the lineup?
macd23
I've got mixed feelings about giving Hudson ANY free outs right now.......Make him earn them at this point. His PC is climbing quickly....
Jack Hayden
Agreed, TreeRol. There is a time and a place for the sac bunt, and that wasn't it.

Because he is really quick and speedy fast he is. Wickedly fast.

Let's see, we're whaling on him, the runner's already in scoring position, it's the 2nd inning and we're up 4. There's no reason for mixed feelings at all. Bunting there is completely ridiculous.

I know. I was understating it a bit.....I didn't like it either.......It did result in a run on the botched transfer on the ortiz double play ball.........So thats good.
IdahoSoxFan
..he did the same thing yesterday with a big lead...too early in the game..completely agreed

Look, we know Crisp is going to make an out. Why not ensure that it is a productive one. And the rest of the inning made it pretty clear that we don't score the run without that productive out.

That, right there, is the problem.

Gabbard's curve looks Okajima-esque. I love it.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Crisp has to lead the team in things made happen. What a gamer!
IdahoSoxFan
another nice inning for gabbard

way to work him for 7 pitches.....
bubba63
When was the last time we had a power pitching left hander with finesse? (Ex-Yankee withstanding, don't count) I needs to go get me a #61 jersey if he keeps this up!
SoxAroundTheWorld
Nice inning for Hudson. Hope five is enough with him settling down. Guys: would it have hurt to take a few pitches before hitting those weak ground balls???
macd23
Gabbard has filthy stuff so far....
